Unified Board Names 9 Principals Appointments of nine principals, a language arts consultant, and five administrative assistants were made by the Unified School Board last' night. The board also named three teachers who will serve as assistants to consul- Humphrey Vall tants, a media specialist, a new director for Project Head Start, a director and as- Thompson sistant director of research, and made other appointments. James Thompson, head football coach at Washington Park High School since 1957 and in addition, an administrative in- Sullivan Miss Kloften tern there last year, will take a principal's desk at one of his inter-city rivals Case High School. Thompson, 42, a native of McFarland, graduate of Madison East High School, a football end at the University of Wisconsin from 1945-47, and a coach at Birnamwood and at Watertown before coming to Park, is widely Mack Zold known for his successes in building rugged high school football teams. Another boy, Raymond Golden 13, of 1334 Albert was washed ashore to safety, as was Walter Foot, 45, of Albert who tried to save the two drowning victims.

Appoint Director Robert Gomoll, 31, was named principal of Starbuck Junior High. Gomoll replaces Lloyd Johansen, who will be full-time director of Title III federal grams in Racine next fall. Gomoll came to the Unified District in 1963 as a social studies teacher from Columbus, where he had taught four years. He was acting principal at Starbuck in the term just completed. The board also named George Ginther, recently an administrative intern at Wadewitz, to head the Wind Point School, and Donald Burant to lead the work at the West Ridge and Richards schools.

Burant has just finished a year as administrative intern at Garfield. Allen Onnink, presently principal of the Sturtevant School, has been selected for the additional principal's duties of the new Sturtevant area school under construction. Select Assistants Administrative assistants announced last night were Russell Pollock at the new Gifford Junior High School, James Ferguson at the Crestview School, Richard Heidenreich at Janes School, Robert Hesse at Jefferson and Raymond Kayon at Gifford. Helping teachers were selected as follows: elementary arithmetic, Mae Elsdon; home economics, Murval Weidlein; elemen-tary, Margaret Maslowske. Carl Helmle, who served parttime as media specialist and part-time as industrial arts teacher at Starbuck this year, will become full-time media specialist at the Instructional terials Center in the fall.

Project Head Start, a program supported by the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity for disadvantaged school children and placed on a full-time basis in Racine for the first time next fall, will be headed by W. Glynn Humphrey, the board announced. Director of research will be Milton C. Hillery and Orville Totdahl was named research assistant and the demographer for the district.

Civic Groups Start Program of Vehicle Safety Inspections Racine's annual voluntary LaValle added, there is no vehicle safety check began this afternoon with an inspection set up in the 2300 block of Kinzie Ave. Phil J. Racine County Safety Council director, said this morning the safety check will give drivers an opportunity to find out if their automobiles meet full safety standards. The three-day check is sponsored by the Safety Council, Racine Police Department and Racine County Sheriff's Department. Set Inspection Points Inspection points, LaValle said, are being manned by the following civic organizations: Racine Insurance Tuesday Optimist Club, Racine Jaycees, Racine Rotary Club, Racine Lions Club, Kiwanis Club of Greater Racine, Racine Ministerial Assn.

and The Racine Kiwanis Club. The Kinzie Ave. inspection point opened at 1 p.m. today and is scheduled to close at 7 p.m. Cars will be checked Wednesday in the 1400 block of N.

Main St. from 1 to 7 p.m. and Thursday in the 2300 block of Lathrop Ave. from 1 to 5 p.m. Checks Are Voluntary LaValle reminded Racine residents that they are under no obligation by law to have their vehicles checked, but that the free inspections are offered in the interest of public safety.

A car passing the 10-point safety check will be given a Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Safety Check sticker to display. If a car does not pass the check, SPACE? Just penalty. The motorist will be given a recommendation by the police officer or sheriff's deputy at the inspection point that the points not passing be taken care of before a given time, LaValle explained. Inspect Several Items The following items are being checked: brakes, front and rear lights, turn signals, stop lights, steering, tires, exhaust system, glass, windshield wipers and washers, rearview mirror, horn and seat belts. LaValle said this could be the last year for the volunteer safety check.

Bergan said he believed it was the first time in the history of Masonry in Wisconsin that both the Grand Commander and the grand master of all Masons of the State of Wisconsin, Robert V. Osborne, were from the same city during the same terms of office. Both Crane and Osborne are members of Racine Commandery No. 7. Crane will preside over the activities of the annual conclave until the installation of the new grand commander.

Plan Downtown Parade At 2 p.m. Saturday, the Knights Templar will form up at East Park and begin their pa-, rade which will wind its way through downtown to Pershing Park. The Knights will march north on Main St. to 7th St, then go west on 7th to Park north on Park to 6th St. and east on 6th to Pershing Park.

Drill team trophies will be awarded at the park. The 109th Annual Conclave, and possibly the last one to be held in Racine in this century, will draw to a close with a reception for Brucker at the Clayton House at 3:30 p.m. Arraign Youth in Chain Beating Keats Burgher, 18, of 1503 Rosalind Ave. turned himself in .51 to police Monday night and ap.43 peared this morning before .51 Court Commissioner Oscar wards on a charge of conduct without regard for human life. .01 Burgher was sought on a plaint charging the offense signled by another 18-year-old youth, Frederick Madsen, 18, of 5421 Taylor who said he was beaten, with a length of chain at 1.52 Zoo Beach last Friday.
