V- 4 Prediction that sales by the farm machinery industry will be somewhat below the high volumes of 1959 has been made by Albert A. Thornbrough, president of Massey-Ferguson which has its headquar ters in Toronto, Canada. Thornbrough made no pre diction in terms of percentages. He did, however, point out that 1959 gross cash farm income will be down about iy2 per cent and he expects next year's will be down about 2xf per cent.

Although there have been a number of comments recently on lower farm net income for next year, the M-F president said the experience of the in dustry over many years is that sales of farm machinery are much, more nearly related to gross farm income than to net income. Thornbrough said the fast, light and easy harvest in the United States, combined with early winter and heavy snow in Western Canada, where sub stantial quantities of grain will not be harvested until next spring, leaves the industry at year-end with an inventory that was higher than might! nave been anticipated. Farm in dustry employment in North America will, therefore, prob-J ably be down a little from this: year's high level.
