J. 0. Thomas Louisville Ky RAILROAD Merchants in Atlanta Elated it Ounces or Free Delivery BUT IT WILL ONLY BENEFIT GROCERS Bumon of tha Complete Sale of the Cinein- nati outhrn to the Baron Denied. Other Railroad Gossip. The news given in the railroad columns of The Constitution yesterday that the merchants of Atlanta will soon have free delivery from the rairoud depots again vas gratifying and aroused much comment among the business men of the city and the railroad people too.

It i well known what a fight the merchants of Atlanta made against the change whets the roads decided about a year ago to discontinue the tree delivery system. The merchants of Atlanta felt that they' eel some such recognition at the hauals of the' roads entering this city and felt that thy were being denied what they hart a right to claim when the roads took from them the advantages of the free delivery system of handling freights. It is altogether probable that. the roads would not have restored the free delivery system hail it not been for the decision of the Western and Atlantic in determining not to alwvv the roads from the west the advantages of its sidetracks and terminal facilities on the same terms that it had allowed them in the past. It is said that the reason that the Western and Atlantic decided upon this course was that the property of the company was too desirable to letting out to the other roads on cheap terms when the Western and Atlantic could have such superior advantages if it lielU the sidetracks for its own exclusive use.

Commissioner t3hlm8n was talking over the situation yesterday anti said Yes therp will be a meeting of the leading representatives of all the western lines centering in Atlanta held in my office next Tuesday for the purpose of considering what can be done to remedy the situation thrown blurt- these lines by the proposition of the Western and Atlantic when it decides that it cannot longer allow the use of its sidetracks here on the same terms that it has done in time' past. lit it true that fret- delivery will be the result of this meeting and the solution of the problem forced upon the western lines was silted. Yes I think the tendency is towards It proposition for free delivery of freights in Atlanta lay the western lint's entering this city. I do not think time free delivery iucs tion will be taken up lay the roads entering Atlanta Irons the ra but I am of time opinion that the wen tern roads will drcide to grant the delivery from thpir freight depots without charge IN It solution to the situation thru upon them by the proposition of the Western and Atlantic. Thus it can he seen that the merchants of Atlanta.

who will derive touch benefit from the delivery system in ease the west- ern roads do grant it ill be the wholesale and retail grocery men. The western freights are almost exclusively heavy grocery freights and it ran c- seen that it is the grocers more than the dry goods men who wilf the most benefit out of the free deXvpry if it is adopted its it settlement of the Question of getting better terminal fa- li1ietl.
