One day, when he was in rather a loose condition, they got him in a room and commenced conTersing about delirium tremens, directing their remarks to him, and telling him what fearful objects such aa snakea and rats, were always seen by ictims of this horrible dueaac When the conversation waxed high on thet heme, on of the number fctepped out of th room, and froth a trap which was at hand, let a large rat into th room. Non of hit friends seemed to se It, but the young man who was the Tictita seixd chair and hurled it at th rat, completely; using op the piece of furniture in the operation. Another chair shared the same fate, when his friends seised him, and, with terror depicted in their faces, demanded to know what was the matter. Why don't you see that cussed bi rat?" aid he pointing to the animal, which, after, a ui wbiiuc? ui nU wa tuning way round the room, close to the wall. They all saw it but replied that they didn't sea it" there was no ra8" But there ia!" said he as another chair went to pieces in ah ineffectual attempt to crush the obnoxou Terniin.

At this moment they again seised him and after a terrific scuffle threw him down on the floor and with terror in their faces screamed, Charley run for the doctor!" Charley started for the door, when Georjr desired to be informed what the devil was opr "Up," said they, "why you hate got the delirium tremens!" Charley opened the door to go out, when George raised himself on his elbow, and said, Charley wo ere are you going: Going for a doctor said Charley. 9 For what!" replied Charley, why you're got the delirium The delirium tremens hare recreated George. How do joa know I've got the delirjum tremens!" Easy enough, said Charley, you've commenced teeing: rata," Seeingrate!" said George, in a sort of nosing way; seeing rats! IT. TAlf TLIET. Dit Oa Wm Met. The campaign of this faS closes next Tues day, one week from to-day. It behooves every friend of Republican 4easure to be active, for the few days that remain.

Let not the idea that this County' is safe for five or si i hundred majority, for the county ticket, prevent us from doing all that we can to bring out a full vote of the Republican forces. It wants, we know, but a full vote to accomplixh this, and even roll up a larger majority. We must bear in mind that we want a lull voe for something else betides the election of our county ticket by a great majority. In the county of Milwaukee there will be polled a heavy Democratic vote against Judge Porru, which the majorities of Racine. Kenosha, Walworth and Wauke sha counties must overcome.

There is no difficulty in doing this. Our Democratic friends are not in the beet spirits imaginable and will not waste much powder. In fact. they cannot make any stir without waking more Republicans than they do Damoerata Therefore, they will keep pretty still. But, at any rate, it is beat to be prepared fur them, and do all the work that is possible to be done during the coming week, jut to see what Racine County can do, knowing that all we have over five hundred, on the county ticket will go to help Potts a en the con gressionsl The candidates on the county ticket ow it to thcmselvea, aad their friends.

to work like beavers during tha time that Is left It is their duty to se If there is any disaffection remaining among thoa who wer disappointed at the Convention, and to use all honorable means to have it remov ed. It also becomes everr member of th party, and very friend of its priaeipWa, to put forth, such effort a Is within bis sphere to secure the success of all the candidate. Believe no stories about friends or foes. which are hatched ap about eWctlov time. they had been worthy of being told, they would have been uttered loag eg.

The principles of the Republican party deserve success for their intrinsic mrriU, and the party is disgraced if vile means are used to elect ita candidates. This is a weakness re sorted to-by small minds on the eve of tion, and always in the end. does more harm than rood. We can succeed without such base operation If we all work, land all vote on election day, the county ticket ia secure by more than five hundred majority, and we shall have the satisfaction of knowing that we have done our best to return an able man to Congress. atianesota ElecUoa.
