He served 26 months overseas in World War II in Germany being attached to the 723rd Railway. During this time he was under the service of Col. Doyle Gresham and Col. George Mulick, also Union Pacific employees, whom he knew in civilian life. Upon his return from the war he purchased Kraemer's interest in the Parkmor, and went back to the Union Pacific.

Then in 1965 the Parkmor was sold to Phillips Petroleum company. He was appointed yard-master here in 1970 which position he held until his recent retirement. His duties consisted in seeing trains were "made up" in and out of the yards, seeing that the yards were in good condition, and had two locomotives under his direction during his eight-hour schedules. With many other interests than his occupation, he has served as trustee and as a ruling elder of Memorial Presbyterian church. He also is a member and past commander of S.M.N.

R. Post No. 163, American Legion, is affiliated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, member and past president of Marysville Rotary club. While he was president Brian Sheean of Australia, an International Rotary student arrived to live with 12 families and attend Marysville high school. Funk also is a member of Marysville Country club, having served as president in 1951 and has been on the board of directors for more than 20 years.

He was president of the fiftieth annual Jayhusker tournament held here, in 1973. A constant contributor of blood at bloodmobile visits, he has given more than six gallons during the years. Active in Masonry he is a member of the local Masonic bodies, Arab Shrine, and the Jesters, Topeka. He also is a past president of Ne-Mar Shrine club. He and the former Verla Mohr to whom he was married in 1940, plan to continue to reside here.

Their early plans for a Co. Red Cross Chapter Will Meet Tonight The Marshall county chapter of the Red Cross has scheduled their quarterly meeting tonight at 7:30 at the Mary Marshall Manor, according to Dr. Robert D. Hughes, Marysville, chapter 1 chairman. Discussion of the disaster program and preparation for the March Red Cross drive will highlight the evening's program, he said.
