Mr. Blankenship was born in Haines City, and a former resident of Plant City, from birth to 1986. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Umatilla. A native of Moline, in 1943 Larry was sworn in to the inactive Reserve of the U.S. Army Air Corps and called to active duty February 9, 1944. Larry took advantage of the GI Bill attending Illinois State Teachers College in Macomb, for two years after World War II, transferring to the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Fla. He obtained his bachelor degree in business administration in 1949. Larry's entire career was with General Motors Acceptance beginning in 1949 in West Palm Beach, Miami, Albany Tampa and St.

Petersburg, retiring in 1986. He and Muriel moved to Black Mountain, N.C. They returned to Plant City, in 1994. A celebration of Larry's life, followed by interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.

She attended Mass daily and helped other non drivers with rides for many years, until her illness forced her to give up driving and housekeeping. A Memorial Mass will be conducted at St. Anne Catholic Church in Ruskin, with the date to be announced.

Retired from Continental Can Co. as plant quality control manager in 1986, he served as monarch of Zendah Grotto in 1977 and was cast director and president for 20 years. He also served two terms on the Cerebral Palsey board of directors and was presented with the Cerebral Palsey Humanitarian Award of Tampa Bay in 1977.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War Il, the Korean conflict and Vietnam. Mr Yates was a member of J.F. Swartsel Lodge 250 Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite, Order of the Eastern Star Trinity Chapel. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Louise Yates.
