given by Morrison to police. A tennis shoe allegedly worn by Morrison matched the shoe imprint on Mrs. Moore's face, police detectives said at Morrison's arraignment. A ROCK ISLAND detective at the preliminary hearing said he confronted Morrison with evidence they had gathered during the investigation, including scrapings from under the victim's fingernails, palm prints, hair samples and similarities between the Newcomb and Moore burglaries. Morrison then gave police a statement concerning the Moore murder, he said.

Mrs. Moore, of 1229 11th died four hours after the beating, which police called "a vicious attack." She told police before she died that she opened the rear door of her apartment about 7:30 p.m. to put something on the porch when she was accosted by a large man. The man pointed a knife at her, she said, and forced his way into her apartment, where he beat and kicked her. Before leaving, the -assailant set fire to her apartment.

Mrs. Moore managed to make her way to the porch where she was found by firemen about 8:30 p.m. She died of injuries received in the beating four hours later at Franciscan Hospital.
