New Yon it, June 4, 8, P. M. A terrible riot occurred at Brooklyn this afternoon between some Irish Catholics nnd a number of Americans who had been down to hear a street preacher. It i3 reported that 7 or 8 Americans were killed, and from 60 to 60 wounded. An Irish company, the Shield'a Guards, are cut in full force, and are said to be shooting Americans down in the streets.

Several Philadtlphians are reported to have been killed. second despatch. A meeting ot citizens is now being held in the Park. Several persona who escaped from the slaughter at Brooklyn spoke. They all concur in the statement that while the Americans were walking arm in arm down Main street from Smith, where they had been to hear a street preacher, they were suddenly fired upon from the windows of the Irish houses on both sides of the street.

The number shot is variously stated. Onespeaker said he saw two dead bodies carried 01F another saw 7. The wounded are stated at 40 to 80. Another version say3 40 to 80 killed. The Americans, after being attacked, returned to Cathaiine street Ferry, andjaany succeeded in getting on the boat, while others, numbering 100, were left behind in the Ferry House, where they are now imprisoned, the Ferry boat having stopped running and the Irish having blocked up the other side.

At the meeting in the Park, it was resolved that those present arm and proceed to Brooklyn by other ltrries to release their comrades. The vote was cariied by a unanimous shout, and the crowd proceeded to Grand stieet ferry. A gentleman who passed down Main street at 6 o'clock, before the Americans came along, says that the street was then fi tied with Irish, armed with stones, vitriol bottles, awaiting the approach of the Americans. All accounts concur that the Americans were walking quiety along, payiDg no attention to the grcaas ana hisses with whieh they were first saluted. THIRD DISPATCH.

New York, Juae 411, P. M. The los3 of life at Brooklyn was preatly exaggerated. Only two persms wtre killed one a policeman, and the other a boy, who was shot through the forehead and instantly killed. Many were terribly injured, especially the Irish, who resisted the police.

Large tumbers of Irish are under arrest. The Shields' Guards did not fire, and were not on the ground. A regiment has been ordered out. Four com-punies of Americans are on guard, and the rest at the srmcry. Two Irish companies took arms from the armory and marched out without orders, going to South Brooklyn, away from the scene of the riot.

A collision between the military is feared, as the companies say the Irish troops shall not enter the armory again. The Americans shut up etUatharine street ferry got over safe. All is now quiet. More of tlie fugitive Slave Case. Boston, June 3.

Richard H. Dana, one of the counsel for Anthony Burns, was knocked down in the street last night with a slung shot, and badly hurt. The law students at Cambridge, it is reported, intend to dispense with Mr. Commissioner lectures at the Law School for the utura. About one o'clock this morning three images were found suspended to the flag staff on the common, havirg the following names attached: 1st.

"Marshal Freeman, Chief of the Bo3ton ruffians, slaveholders and blood-hounds." 2d. "Benjamin F. Hallett, U. S. District Attorney, and Attorney General to the Prince of Darkness." 3d.

"Commissioner Loring, the Ten Dollar Jeffries of 1S54." The chuich bells at Manchester, N. were tolled for an Lour, yesterday, on the receipt of the announcement that Burns was to go back to slavery. Railroad Accident and Loss of Life. London, C. June 3.

The cars on the Great "Western Railroad ran off the track near thi place last evening and pitched down an embankment, smashing up the passenger and freight cars, killing seven persons, (all second class passengers,) and seriously injuring several others, 1 at least fatally. THE SUN. BALTIMORE, MOXDAY, JUNE 5, 1854. Biot i.v Psookltn, N. Y.

We puVttsfc this morning very serious accounts of disorder, riot, and bloodshed, vhich occurred ia the city Brooklyn, opposite New York, yesterday afternoon. There has been too much cause to apprehend an outbreak of this character, for some time past, in the gradual disaffection which has been growing up between the native and immigrant population several of the Atlantic cities. Intelligent and peaceably disposed men, however, must see that personal violence, under any circumstances, is causeless, inexcusable, and worse than useless, come from whom it may. It therefore behooves every good and true man te employ all the influence he can exert to allay excitement, and induce a more healthful and ge liial state of social sentiment. No man need forego any opinion or principle consistent with citizen ship, native cr adopted, to do this.

No sacrifice of political cr partizan relation is required of him. It is only necessary for him to be a man, faithful to himself, to his country and to the true interests of mankind at large, to maintain the harmony of society, and effectually to allay the seething elements of popular contention. It is not to be doubted that the intelligence from Brooklyn will produce great excitement in the public mind all over the Union. Resentment and tiistiust will spring up in the bosoms of men every where, and, in the very moment and flush of the event, a word of calm, dispassionate counsel may be but indifferently regarded. Nevertheless, our duty requires Let our readers bear in mind that first accounts are often exaggerated; that subsequent statements may vary the original narration of facts: that however bad the case may be, hrrsh declamation and violent denunciation may make it worse.

Let us remember thit our countiy is composed of a mixed population, and that there is no fatuity to which we can commit ourselves so gross, as that which would need, lessly provoke strife, or exaggerate the differences amongst us. TLe Internecine spirit of political and religion? strife, has stained every page of the history of Ea-rope with blood. If we cannot live without invoking this desolating spirit, we have yet to acquire a higher intelligence, and to consult more intimately the genius of the republic in the constitution and the institutions under which we live. And if those who come amongst us are indifferent to the great principles they acquire in this land of liberty, and choose to avenge their real or imaginary wrongs by a resort to arms and bloodshed, they must be taught a salutary lesson at the hands of judicial power. Since the above was in type we received the ist despatch from Brooklyn, which presents the affair in a much less startling aspect.

We rejoice to find our first suspicions of exaggeration sa promptly confirmed. Ban Condition of Things in Tchxev. A let-ter dated Constantinople, 3Iy from an intelligent American, says; 'Tuiky is t'ene up. She ha3 no resources and can get no rccr.ey. I rever expect to see the British trocps leave this country until Eogland has all she.

wants. I hope that England's influence and power will "exerted for the bensat of Tuikey. TLe French have no interest in the question, and Lave been clearly coaxed into it by the Eiigiifh. "Tirrlve thoussi.d Kneiirh troops are at Scuti-li, and at Gallipoli. The French are all at tialJipcli, some 20.000 in number.

It is understood that nothing will be done by land until the end of June. The allied fleets are off Sabastopol, but can never take it without troops to flank it. "The Tuikish fleet has just sailed fortheCir-fafsian ccast. Schamil has been declared Emir (Piir.ce Governor) of Circassia, and assistance has teen ttut him." The above striking statements are similar to seme allusions made by the London correspondent of the New York Tribune in his letter which came by the Franklin, Ila states that the leaders of the French and British forces in Turkey are finding that the military administration of the Porte is entirely incompetent to provide for the wants of the auxiliary armies, and that they are tbcuttotake that administration into their osvn hands. They consider it out of the question for them to risk the succea3 of their expedition on a mere question of punctillio, and it is intimated that the establishment of an Anglo-French military directory at Gallipoli, Constantinople, Adrian -ple, or some other convenient place, may yet be deemed necessary, and perhaps ultimately the finances and internal police may have to be taken into the hand3 of the allies.

In the course of this, dissatisfaction would most likely ari3e between the moslem anl christian inhabitants. The result in its effects upon the nominal power of the Sultan or Porte may be infetred from tha concessions already made to English and French diplomacy, a3 instanced in giving equal rights to the Porte's christian subjects and exempting Roman Catholic subjects of Greece from the banishment suffered by other Greek3 in Turkey. Thi3 latter wa3 accomplished by the French ambassador threatening to quit hi3 functions. In any case, therefore, the Porte secni3 destined to I039 by the present war, but civilization and chris tianity may gain much. A Week op Interest in Baltijtohe.

The present week promises to be one of much intere3 and enjoyment in this city. The various German singing will- have a procession. thi3 morning, previous to a rehearsal at the Hall of the Maryland Institute, to be followed by a grand con. cert to-Light. To-day, also, the races over the Herring Run course commence, and on Wednesday the Floral Exhibition of the Maryland Horticultural cpeii3 at the Maryland Institute Hall, ciosinj on Friday, on which day the editorial fraternity of Maryland will assemble in Scate Convention at the rooms of the Agricultural Society, in the Atnri-can Euildikgs. As the weather is clear a 1 5 peasant, our streets will no doubt be throagei by citizens and strangers. Ex-Biehop Ivzs.
