P) Business of the annual western conference meeting today had been boiled down to a joint session of athletio directors and faculty committeemen, and the arranging of schedules for baseball and minor sports. Faculty men and athletic heads had dinner together last night but discussed only routine affairs, chief among them financial business. No changes were recommended and It was indicated that the member institutions would schedule games and meets on the same basis as last year, when some trimming was done. Coaches Do Business. Football coaches did most of the business yesterday, recommending three changes in the rules, and offering for the approval of the faculty committee, two suggestions.

Of the latter one asked for the establishment of a modified training table, and the other for starting preseason football practice on September 10 instead of September 15. The coaches agreed that the rules should be altered to permit forward passing from anywhere behind the line of scrimmage, instead of from not less than five yards back of the scrimmage line. They also went oa record as being opposed to the "dead ball" rule adopted two years ago. Under this -rule the ball Is dead when any part of the ball carrier's body, other than his hands or feet, touches the ground. Hope to Beat Wind.

It also was proposed that by agreement on days when a strong wind blows over the gridiron, the team In possession of the ball within its own 20 yard line, have the option of surrendering the ball at a point 25 yards down the field without kicking. The annual indoor track championship will be held at the University of Chicago March 10, and the outdoor meet at Northwestern May 18 and 19. Fencing and gymnastics championships will be held at Chicago March 10, with the wrestling meet at Michigan March 9 and 10. The swimming title event was awarded to Iowa for March 9 and 10. The golfers will compete at Northwestern May 21 and 22, and the tennis championships will be played at Chicago, May 17 and 18 and 19.

I'm sure that youll find most of Princeton in the national football standings the alone of all major elevens was. undefeated and untied and all the major teams listed in the standings (and all top ranking elevens are included) Princeton has the best percentage in points scored against points. Best Defensive Team. The great Bengal machine, as the standings show, has but eight points scored against it all season a touchdown and a safety.

No other major or minor eleven produced in 1933 such a splendid defensive Michigan, in the final standings, is second and none will argue that the Wolverines do not deserve such high ranking. Only a tie with Minnesota marred Michigan's record. v- Army Falls to Fourth. second before the final games of Mie season, fell to fourth by virtue of the beating handed the Cadets by Notre Dame in the Soldiers' football finale. Pittsburgh, in the standings, now outranks, the Cadets and, when the schedules of the two teams are compared, the justice of Pittsburgh's appearing above Army can easily be seen.

The top dozen teams in the standings this year do not have as high an average (percentage as In the last several seasons. This is the best indication of how the defensive department of football improved this year even the champions felt the sting of seeing the other fellows score occasionally. Jimmy-on-the-Spot. It appeared as though the starting combination of Hall and Komadino at forwards, Lenc at center, and Ligeno and Smith at guards, was the strongest. However, there was little differences between that and any other combination the Orange mentor sent in, due largely to the fact that East Moline was in possession of the ball most of the, time one advantage of a tall center able to get off the floor.

Hilltops Score First. The Orangemen seored first In the opening minutes when Lenc tossed In a free throw on Weber's personal. Two plays later, with no change in the score, Lenc returned the compliment, fouling VanYssel-dyk, who sank the gratis throw to tie the score. Then Lenc, to make up for his error, sank two from the floor in rapid succession, giving the Hllltop-pers a 4-point lead. However, Van-Ysseldyk scored a basket and a free toss and Muscatine was trailing by only 1 point as the quarter ended.

In the second period both teams tightened their defense and a basket by Ligeno of East Moline and Dillon of Muscatine was the extent of the scoring. The count stood, East Moline, Muscatine, 6, is the half ended. The rangemen really stepped out in the third period to count 8 points while holding the Muskies to a single field goal. Georgokoplas, Ligeno and Lundeen each counted a basket while Lenc tossed in a couple of "free throws. Orange Keeps BalL The final quarter was little different from the preceding one with East Moline keeping possession of the ball for the most part.

As a result Muscatine was held to one basket and a free throw, while the Orangemen counted on three gratis throws and a basket. East Moline made several errors and showed a number of weaknesses, which was to be expected in the first tilt. One of the most noticeable faults in the quintet was its lack of ability to put in free throws. Only six out of sixteen attempts were counters. However, potentially East Moline Is strong and should develop into a real contender for conference honors.

Saints Defense Good. St. Mary's high school of Moline displayed a nearly airtight defense and a speedy offense in the curtain-raiser against the Hilltop reserves, which resulted In very few shots for East Moline. The reserves did not make a basket from the floor until well along in the fourth period, when VanderBeke sank a long one from outside the foul circle.
