Proponents of the eight separate first-round final games argued that more fans get to see their favorites in action than was permitted at Huff gym. This argument now Is weakened with construction of the new Illinl field house. Anti-Sweet Sixtten thinking also cites over-emphasis of the sport with too many school days lost by students involved in the tourney. Just a month ago, a bill was shelved at Springfield which would have legislated a return to the Sweet Sixteen finals.

Schoolmen strongly contended regulation of interscholastic activities should be left in the hands of school authorities. The bill was buried just three days before the tourney finals began in Champaign.
