ROCK ISLAND Bernardo Catalano Bernardo J. Catalano, 62, of 4520 9th Rock Island, died Tuesday, June 18, 1996, at Trinity Medical Center, East Campus, Moline. Arrangements are pending at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Lois Turley Services for Lois Lucille Turley, 84, Rock Island, are 1 p.m. Thursday at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island, where she was a member.

Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Valentine Krakowiak Valentine Anthony "Squeaky" Krakowiak, 70, Kewanee Care Nursing Home, died Sunday, June 16, 1996, at Kewanee Hospital. Services are 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Cavanagh Schueneman Funeral Home, Kewanee. Burial is in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kewanee.

There is no visitation. A memorial fund has been established. Mr. Krakowiak was born Nov. 29, 1925, near Detroit, Mich.

He worked for the pipeline in Kewanee. He later worked at Boss Manufacturing, sanitation department for the City of Kewanee and had last worked at Pines Trailer Kewanee. He was well-known for his harmonica playing in the Kewanee area. There are no known immediate survivors. Nursing Home; Cavanagh Schueneman, Kewanee.

Memorials may Be made charge of arrangements. Mrs. Darling died Monday, June 17, 1996, at the home of her daughter, Karen Pement, in East Moline. The former Betty Shell was born March 31, 1932, in Roanoke, the daughter of Fletcher and Cassie Anew Shell. She married Warren A.

Darling Oct. 2, 1954, in Roanoke. She was an assistant in the infant department at Skip Along Day Care Center in Moline since 1990. She served as a volunteer in the nursery department of the church from 1978 to 1995. She enjoyed flowers and gardening.

Survivors include the widower; daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Fred St Clair, Troutville, Julie and Harry Wilson, Milan, and Karen and Lyle Pement, East Moline; and grandchildren, Heather and Joshua St Clair, both in Virginia, Ethan Wilson, Milan, and Sammy Pement, East Moline. Donald VanderVennet Donald C. VanderVennet, 70, of 2124 12th Moline, died Tuesday, June 18, 1996, at home. Visitation is 3 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 7 to 9 p.m.

at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Among survivors is the widow, Cleon. Further arrangements are to 7 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Mr. Moore died Monday, June 17, 1996, at Trinity Medical Center, East Campus, Moline. Ruth Gillespie Ruth Gillespie, 94, Oakwood Health Care Center, Kewanee, died Saturday, June 15, 1996, at Kewanee Hospital. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Ca-vanagh Schueneman Funeral Home, Kewanee.

Burial is in Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation is one hour prior to service time. The former Ruth Tibbs was born July 17, 1901, in Ceres, the daughter of Samuel and Odessa Repass Tibbs. She married Jessie Gillespie in 1930. He died in 1987.

She was employed for 23 years at Boss Manufacturing Kewanee, retiring in 1963. She attended the Methodist Church in Kewanee. She enjoyed watching television and going to the movies. Survivors include a son, Merrill Gillespie, of California; a sister, Inez Schupe, Ceres; a niece, Vilma Hubble, and a nephew, Doyle Schupe. William Jones William Alonzo Jones, 77, Wilmington, N.C., formerly of Alpha, died Sunday, June 9, 1996, at Cornelia Nixon Davis Health Care Center, Wilminnton.

Services were held June 12 at An, drews Mortuary, Wilmington. Memorials may be made to Quad City Amateur Radio Club, co John Hoenshell, 2331 N. Linwood, Davenport, 52804-2532. Mr. Jones was born July 1, 1918, in Beardstown, HL, the son of Anthony L.

and Esther Lee Hoelscher Jones. He married Mildred Edith Rehn in 1939 in Keokuk, Iowa. He then married Andry Amir in 1963, in Indonesia. He was employed at Illinois Bell Telephone Rock Island. He worked on the Distant Early Warning Line in Point Barrow, Alaska, from 1956-1958.

He also worked for Philco Corporation in South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand and Iran. He was a member of Amateur Radio Club and American Legion. He was a youth leader and taught Sunday School at Alpha Methodist Church. He was a World War II Army veteran having served in the Phil-lipines with the Signal Corps. He enjoyed bridge.

Survivors include the widow; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Otto Thamasett, Springfield, Barbara and Sanat Shah, Bethel Park, Kathy and Paul Miller, Panora, Iowa, Marilyn and Roy Burklund, Alpha, and Jennifer Jones, at home; sons, Richard Jones, St. Paul, and Jean A. Jones, Wilmington; stepchildren, Martin Jones, Great Mills, and Boyke Jones, Brunswick, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; five stepgrandchil-dren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucile and Harry McMurl, East Moline, Maxine and L.A. Hinson, Whiteville, N.C., and Beatrice Wynes, Viola. church.

Mrs. Turley died Monday, June 17, 1996, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. The former Lois Simmons was born March 28, 1912, in Manchester, 111., the daughter of Carey W. and AnnieBell Lemon Simmons. She married Ray E.

Turley May 25, 1939, in Jacksonville, HL He died in 1990. She was employed as a cafeteria manager at Rock Island schools, retiring in 1977. She was very active with the church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and James Westp-fahl, Milan; sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Mary Ellen Turley, Lake Forest, and Floyd and Marian Turley, St. Paul, seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arthur McGee Services for Arthur Thomas McGee, 82, Kahl Home for the Aged and Infirm, Davenport, are 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport, where he was a member. Burial is in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today at Halligan-McCabe Funeral Home, Davenport, with prayer service at 7:30.

Memorials may be made to Assumption High School or the Kahl Home. Mr. McGee died Monday, June 17, 1996, at the home. He was born July 17, 1913, in Muscatine, the son of Thomas and Katherine Connell McGee. He married Esther Michl June 20, 1938, in Bettendorf.

He had been employed as a meat cutter and owned McGee's Market in Davenport, until 1968. Later, he was the toll taker at the Centennial Bridge for 10 years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Loras Council 532, Davenport. He was a Cubs fan and enjoyed playing cards. Survivors include the widow; daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Alex Rocha, Davenport, Katherine and Paul Feeney, Des Moines, Patricia and Philip Newton, Donahue, Iowa, and Sheilah and James Schnoor, Scottsdale, a son, Michl McGee, Cheyenne, 26 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary Sage, Indianapolis; and a brother, Lyle McGee, Moline.

A son, Stephen McGee, is deceased. Alfred Smith Alfred E. Smith, 67, Davenport, formerly of LeClaire, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 18, 1996, at Davenport Medical Center. Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at McGinnis, Chambers and Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf.

Graveside services are 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun, Iowa. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to Bettendorf Church of the Nazarene where he was a member.

Mr. Smith was born Oct. 27, 1928, in Morning Sun, the son of Richard MOLINE James Anderson James E. Anderson, 73, of 411 30th Moline, died Monday, June 17, 1996, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. He was born Aug.

25, 1914, in Millersburg Township, Mercer County, the son of Rayburn I. and Edna I. Pierce Moore. He married Maxine Mack-Sturgill. She died in May 1981.

He married Janelda De-Loach Dec. 28, 1982, in Moline. He retired from Davenport Packing Co. in 1979 after 10 years as a maintenance person. Prior to that, he was employed at the Thede Company, Aledo, for 17 years.

He was a volunteer at Trinity Medical Center, East Campus, as a PRN for many years. He also was a former peer counselor of Widowed Person's Service and a R.S.V.P. volunteer. He was an avid harness racing fan and Cub fan and enjoyed playing cards. Survivors include the widow; daughters and a son-in-law, Rita Preston, Louisville, and Phyllis and Dean Epperly, Wheaton; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry D.

and Julie Moore, Marion, and Alan L. and Terry Moore, Rock Island; stepdaughters, Mary J. Myers, Rock Island, and Judith L. Fisher, Acworth, 12 grandchildren: 14 great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; his mother, Monmouth; a sister, Ruth Chard, Monmouth; and brothers, Ralph Moore, Viola, Willis Moore, Moline, and James Moore, Knoxville. A daughter, Carol Moore, is deceased.

Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Esterdahl Mortuary Moline. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is 6 to 8 tonight. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran to Blue Grass Fire Department or to the church.

Halligan-McCabe Funeral Home, Davenport, is handling the arrangements. Mrs. Seamer died Monday, June 17, 1996, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport. The former Charlene Schmidt was bom July 6, 1955, in Davenport, the daughter of Charles and Kathleen Baasch Schmidt. She married Michael W.

Seamer Dec. 8, 1973, in Davenport. She attended Marycrest College, Davenport. She also had attended several writing workshops over the years at both St. Ambrose and Marycrest Colleges.

Mrs. Seamer was a homemaker. She was very active in the parish, served on the Parish Council, Worship Committee, Religious Education Committee and had taught Sunday school, all at the church. She was a member of Mary's Angels and American Legion Auxiliary Post 711, Blue Grass. Survivors include the widower; a daughter, Kathleen M.

Seamer, a son, Brian M. Seamer, her parents, all of Blue Grass; sisters and a brother-in-law, Cathy Schmidt, Blue Grass, and Shirley and Henry Hildebrant, Bettendorf; and brothers, Scott Schmidt, Davenport, Charles Schmidt Momence, 111., Richard Schmidt, Blue Grass, and Harry Schmidt, Chicago. Beverly Harris Private services for Beverly J. Harris, 54, Bettendorf, will be held at McGinnis, Chambers and Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial is in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Luke's Medical Center, Chicago. The former Beverly Essary was born May 27, 1942, in Iowa City, the daughter of John Thomas and Jessie Adeline Kirk Essary. She was employed in the dietary department of Trinity Medical Center, East Campus, Moline. She enjoyed music, dogs, playing the guitar and singing. Survivors include a daughter, Holly Harris, Bettendorf; sisters, Louise Stewart and Rosemary Alexander, both of Fairfield, Iowa; and brothers, Johnny Essary, Jefferson County, Iowa, Ronnie Essary, Holly, Wayne Essary and Byron Essary, both of Fairfield.

EAST MOLINE Dorothy Newman Services for Dorothy Newman, 94, East Moline, formerly of Cambridge and Atkinson, are 2 p.m. Thursday at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Homes, Cambridge. Entombment is in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is one hour prior to service time. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Newman died Monday, June 17, 1996, at mini Hospital, Silvis. The former Dorothy Nelson was born Feb. 4, 1902, in Weller Township, Henry County, the daughter of Charles W. and Carrie Robertson Nelson.

She married W. Allen Newman Nov. 14, 1922, in Cambridge. He died March 5, 1949. She attended Cambridge schools and then went to Augustana College where she received her teaching certificate in music in 1920.

She was a member of Cambridge Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, Springfield, and the Ladies Aid Society in both churches. She taught piano in her home and was involved in music at the Baptist Church in Cambridge since an early age. She was a pianist for many years and was the pianist at County Center Grange for years. She was a member of Mothers of World War II, Cambridge, Women's Club, Cambridge, and had been a charter member of Home Bureau Unit. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Eva Newman, Slayton, several grandchildren, stepgrand-children and great-grandchildren.

A son is deceased. AREA Carroll Curley' Welch Carroll T. "Curley" Welch, 57, of 139 4fh Andover, died Monday, June 17, 19, at Trinity Medical Center, East Campus, Moline. Church, Moline, where he was a member. Mr.

Anderson was born Jan. 16, 1923, in Moline, the son of Carl and Ellen Larson Anderson. He married Jacqueline Johnson in August 1946 in Moline. He was a realty and insurance broker and has owned and operated Moorhusen-Anderson Agency in Moline for the past 40 years. He was a World War II Marine veteran and was with the 1st Marine Division.

He served on the church council for several years, was a member of the Rock Island County Board of Realtors, Moline Rotary Club, Independent Order of Svithoid, Doric Lodge No. 319 Moline American Legion Post 246 and the Rock Island Historical Society. He was a former president of the William Carr Dad's Club and was one of the Founders of Mississippi Valley Fruit Jar and Bottle Club, Indianapolis Fruit Jar Club and the Iowa Bottle Club. Survivors include the widow; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Kelly McCafferty, Moline; grandchildren, Beth and Lance McCafferty, Moline; his mother-in-law, Alma Johnson, Rock Island. A son, Gregory James, died in 1974.

and Wilhelmina Peters Smith. He married the former Ruth Shockley in 1954 in Waynesville, Mo. He was employed at the Alcoa Company, Davenport Works, for 15 years, retiring in 1968. He was a Korean Conflict Army veteran. He enjoyed fishing and playing bingo.

Survivors include a daughter, Julie Raymond, a son, Randy Smith, both of Davenport; grandchildren, Justin and Brittany; a sister, Lois McElhinney, Danville, Iowa; and a brother, Orville Smith, Chattanooga, Tenn. He enjoyed watching auto races, fishing, camping, playing Nintendo and playing with friends. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include grandparents, Bobby Stewart, Bettendorf, Jeanette Stewart, Lowden, Iowa, and Dale and Reba Meyer, Wyoming, Iowa; and his great-grandmother, Nancy Thomas, Chetek, Wis. Edward Wirth Edward W. Wirth, 85, Geneseo, died Tuesday, June 18, 1996, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo. Services are 10:30 a.m.
