FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19, 1997 THE TAMPA TRIBUNE SPORTS. 9 Bobo's arrest won't keep Georgia QB out of bowl 'I I rg $SlX-'l IB I Green likely to leave Gators for NFL Draft GAINESVILLE Barring a bad report from NFL advisors, Florida wideout Jacquez Green likely will bypass his senior season. By JOEY KNIGHT of The Tampa Tribune While reeling off the names of several seniors, ones he's hoping will finish their Gator careers with triumphant flair at the Citrus Bowl, Florida coach Steve Spurrier also dropped Jacquez Green's name. And a major hint. Yes, Spurrier suspects what many Gator fans fear: His junior All-American wide receiver, the one with more than twice as many catches as any of his teammates, will bypass his final year of eligibility and run a fly pattern for NFL fortune.

"Yeah, I did mention Quezzie," Spurrier said. "I would guess there's a good chance that he'll leave this year." The only thing that can bar Green from bolting, it seems, is a bad report from NFL advisors. The red-shirt junior, who was in the same recruiting class with 1997 first-round selections Ike Hilliard and Rei-del Anthony, said he hopes to hear from the advisors within days. If they tell him he could go high in the draft like the first or second round the Gators' Jan. 1 contest against Penn State in the Citrus Bowl likely will be Green's last in Gator garb.

"I'll probably see what the NFL advisory board says next week," said Green, who had 61 catches for 1,024 yards and nine touchdowns in the regular season. "Hi the report is good, I might. I'm not sure yet though." All signs, however, indicate Green is gone. He already has spent one more year in college than Hilliard and Anthony, as Spurrier pointed out Wednesday. He also has three Southeastern Conference rings, a national title and virtually nothing more to prove at the college level.

And Spurrier dismisses any questions about Green's 5-foot-9, 172-pound frame holding up at the next level. "There are a lot of receivers his size out there," he said. "Plus, he's got tremendous leaping ability and when the ball hits his hands, it usually sticks." "We hope he comes back, but if he decides to go ahead and make himself available for the NFL Draft, we'll certainly understand and wish him the best." By BRETT McMURPHY of The Tampa Tribune Georgia quarterback Mike Bobo made a boo-boo, but it won't keep him from playing in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1. Bobo was arrested and charged with obstruction of a police officer early Thursday after he ran from the police outside an Athens, qqIIGOG Bobo was arrested at 12:52 fOOtPOll a.m.

in a nightclub after Athens-Clarke County police responded to a reported fight. He ran into the nightclub after a officer called out to him, according to the police report. Bobo, 23, posted a $5,000 bond and was released less than two hours later, police said. Georgia school officials said Bobo would play against Wisconsin. "We're reviewing the situation as are the police," said Georgia coach Jim Donnan.

Bobo, who was unavailable for comment, told The Tampa Tribune on Tuesday he came back for this season so he wouldn't let down his teammates. "After last year 5-6 season, I didn't know if I wanted to keep doing this," Bobo said. "I could have graduated, gone on with my life and done something else. But all my teammates were here. Everyone was counting on me.

I didn't want to let anyone down." Bobo, the SEC's top-rated passer, led the Bulldogs (9-2) to a No. 12 ranking and a bowl berth for the first time 1995. Outback Bowl officials announced 52,000 tickets already have been sold, only 1,361 less than last year's game between Michigan and Alabama. "With two weeks to go, the 52,000 tickets are terrific," Outback Bowl executive director Jim McVay said. "We're a little further ahead then we thought we'd be at this time." McVay also said if the bowl sells 63,500 tickets, the TV blackout would be lifted and the game would be televised locally on ESPN.

The 1995 and 1996 games both drew more than 60,000. For ticket information, call (813) 287-8844 or (813) 874-BOWL. Manning already has worn out a set of batteries working the VCR remote control.

His teammates, meanwhile, worked out with backup Tee Martin. "Tee is not the vocal leader that Peyton is," receiver Peerless Price said. "But Tee is doing a good job trying to handle Peyton's duties. It's different, and it takes some getting used to and hopefully, we won't have to get used to it too long." Manning isn't expected to practice until Dec. 26.

North Carolina athletics officials playing coach and detective say resolution of a bar brawl may have to wait until football players involved in the fracas play in the Gator Bowl.
