As the industry is growing up, so are its con sumers. The Pac Man generation has come of age and it is turning to the video game companies that amused it on college campuses 15 years ago. Improved 3-D style graphics and live-action video that make games look more like movies than pixilated cartoons also attract a broader range of consumers, ranging from 30-something moms to grandmothers.

It started last year, when Acclaim Entertainment unleashed the original "Mortal Kombat" game for the home with a movie-style launch date it dubbed "Mortal Monday."
