'Tramp' sets story straight Dear Ann Landers, Friends and Relatives: I am a female flight attendant. (Formerly known as a stew-artless or air hostess.) Por six and a half years I have worked for one of the major airlines. I cannot describe my reelings when I turned on the TV recently and heard a popular female comedienne answer the question, "What is your definition o( a (light attendant?" She replied, "A tramp." Tills "tramp" spent eight weeks in intensive training to earn her wings. I can serve! cocktails and a complete meal (from soup to nuts) in one hour and fifteen minutes. Three flight attendants can take care of 114 passengers.

I am trained to treat medical problems ranging from scratches and burns to broken limbs and heart attacks. I can handle any emergency, including artifical respiration. I've been given instructions on how to evacuate a plane in a matter of seconds. Our major concern is for the safety of tile-passengers. Some ot my co-workers have lost their lives in an effort to save yours.

I am a babysitter. I have changed diapers, warmed bottles and fed infant 1 so a tired mother could rest or take care of a second child. I have cajoled, counseled and humored a a frightened, lonesome, and just plain obnoxious. 1 have listened patjently to people tttn need to tell a 1 stranger their troubles--sort of a ''sky-based Ann flinders," you might say. I work very hard--harder than people realize--both mentally and physically.

Please print this letter so your readers will understand what the life of a flight attendant is really like. I'm--Proud Of Me Dear Proud: You have a right to be. I've seen you and your winged sisters work feverishly to get everyone fed, tray tables removed and passengers strapped in before landing. Sometimes you make it by a matter of seconds. It's extraordinary! Let's hear it for the dedicated, Hard-working flight attendants who keep a smile on their faces after a grueling day that may have been lipgvm at 5:00 a.m.,'for all we know.
