Geraldo was actually nice to him. "You know how he can be kinda ugly, but he was just as sweet as can be," Fuller says. "Five days after that show ran, I had 2,000 letters." FULLER APPEARS tonight at 7 p.m. at St.

Petersburg's First Unity Church, 469 45th Ave. N. On Sunday, he'll be in Tampa at 2 p.m. at Unity Church of Today, 8210 W. Waters Ave.

Fuller, whose Lively Stones Fellowship ministry is based out of Fairburn, performs healing services only by invitation. He acknowledges that many mainstream Christian denominations, including the Baptists, don't pay attention to him. But churches that are open to the mind-body-spirit connection to healing such as Unity, the Church of Religious Science, Assemblies of God and Pentecostal churches keep him on the road eight months a year. "I know how crazy this sounds. I'm still in awe of the whole thing." These days, Rowley talks openly about her dental miracle, and spends a lot of time with her mouth open, showing friends her new addition. She also says her faith in God has strengthened considerably. "Now I have the insight that the Lord can do anything," she says.

IT TOOK NINE years of intense schooling for Michael Friend to become a dentist. Now he works at Tampa's Friendly Smiles Dental Care, where the motto is "We Cater to Cowards." He says he's seen miracles, but none that are dentally related. "We're dealing with basic science here, not magic," Friend says. "If he's really making gold appear out of nowhere, I'd like to talk to him for investment purposes. Whatever his technique is, I'd like to see it." Although Fuller has bantered with Larry King on the radio and been profiled by magazines such as Omni and Rolling Stone, word of his healings hadn't yet reached the Chicago-based American Dental Association.

SPOKESMAN CHRIS Martin drew a blank when asked about. Fuller's work. If he truly has God on his side, "he doesn't need a license or our approval." However, Martin cautioned the faithful from severing their relationships with their family dentists and relying solely on Fuller to repair and maintain their dental health. He also declined to offer an opin-. ion on the validity of Fuller's claims.

"Listen, we live in a world where a lot of people still believe El-' vis is alive," he says. "I'm not going to rain on their parade and say it isn't so. Whatever makes them hap- py." i 66 Sure, I've been called a fraud. Doesn't bother me. The insults run off me like water off a duck's back.

Willard Fuller Traveling evangelist cles, "there would be red flags all over the place," says Prather, a religion reporter for the Lexington Herald-Leader in Kentucky. He also warned against people who give absolute guarantees that a healing will take place. Fuller does not. Prather spent several years researching his book, and came to the conclusion that God sometimes does quirky things. Dental healings would fall under that category, he says.

"Maybe what he does sounds strange and silly, but I've learned not to rule anything out," he says. "I've interviewed a lot of sane, credible, professional people who've had experiences that just can't be explained." AUDREY ROWLEY of Clearwater counts herself among the sane. She says she had been told by two oral surgeons and one dentist to have a root canal and a crown. When the estimates came close to $1,000, she opted to have the tooth pulled, against their advice. But three weeks ago, Rowley attended one of Fuller's services "with much skepticism." After the minister touched her cheek, the 72-year-old retired nursing assistant says a gold filling mysteriously appeared in her lower molar.

She says she was too nervous at first to tell anyone. She went back to one of the dentists, who insisted she had the work done elsewhere and told her to leave and quit wasting his time. After telling her daughter in Connecticut, she was accused of joining a cult. Now her daughter wants to come to Florida to rescue her. Fuller does not charge an admission fee, taking a "love offering" instead. He gives 30 percent of the offering to the sponsoring organization, keeping 70 percent to pay his expenses.
