Met To Go On Spring Tour By Jet This Year Continuing its policy of taking as many of its new productions on tour as possible, the Metropolitan will carry three of its five new productions this season on the forthcoming tour. They are "Carmen," "Luisa Miller" and "Romeo et Juliette." "Carmen," "Romeo et Ju liette" and "La Forza del Destino" tie for first place in number of performances and will be done in all eight cities of the tour. "Luisa Miller" will have seven representations. "Madama Butterfly," "Le Nozze di Figaro" and "Tosca" will be sung six times each. By CARLA TELLEEN Show Place Editor "I Remember Illinois" was an affectionate piece of television fare.

Although the television show last Sunday commemorating the 150th anniversary of this state seemed like a mishmash of people, scenes and ideas, it was interesting and effective as an introduction to the history of our state. Steve Allen narrated the program and also was the composer of the subdued and well co ordinated music. Present were Dave Garroway, Paul Douglas, Sen. Everett Dirksen, Mercedes McCambridge reading from the writings of Jane Addams, Jack Benny, Benny Goodman, Bob Hope, Adlai Stevenson Jr. recalling a short speech by his father, Mahalia Jackson and many others.

All were natives of Illinois or received their start in their careers in this state. The program concluded with the voice of Carl Sandburg reciting his own poetry, "Chicago." No better ending could have been found. While viewing the show it occurred to us that an excellent 50 week series could be built on this special a similar program for each state of the Union. This special was produced by Harry Rasky Productions Inc. in co-operation with the Illinois Sesquicentennial Commission.

It was shown in this area on WOC-TV, an Iowa station. Glancing over our television viewing for the last couple weeks, we discovered that most of the time was spent in watching the Winter Olympics. Our favorite events were the slalom races and, of course, the graceful skating of American Peggy Fleming. The coverage on ABC-TV was excellent and the camera work good in most instances. It was an exciting experience even in our comfortable, warm home.

If the number of inquiries about the TV programs on "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" is an indication of the potential popularity of the telecasts, they will have an excellent viewing rating. The three programs based on the monumental book by William L. Shirer are scheduled for Wednesday, March 6, Friday, March 8, and Saturday, March 9, on ABC-TV. The locally affiliated station, WQAD-TV, will carry the shows at 9 p.m. on March 6 and March 8 and at 8:30 p.m.

on March 9. Each special will be an hour in length. It seems that these shows are scheduled for the same dates as the Regional Basketball Tournament in this community. It is heartening to know that several basketball fans are concerned about the conflict of these documentaries and the basketball games. If the television adapter of the book retains just a small proportion of the words written by Shirer, the documentary on one of the darkest areas in human history, the time of Adolph Hitler, will contain some of the best-written and descriptive phrases in contemporary literature.

By the way, the evening of March 6 will be an entire evening of specials on ABC-TV and on WQAD-TV. Leading off at 6:30 p.m. will be "Savage World of the Coral Jungle" which is the second of four programs to be presented this year in "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau" series. At 7:30, Now Generation" will present some attitudes of young people today hosted by "Peyton Place" star Ryan O'Neal. This will be followed by a musical tour of Monaco by Princess Grace, "Monte Carlo.

La Rose," at 8 p.m. Then at 9 will be Part I of "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich." It's rumored that Mae West, now 75, and Cary Grant will be re-united for a new movie "Cowboys and Indians." The two stars were first seen together in "She Done Him Wrong" which originated such familiar phrases as "Why don'tcha come up 'n see me sometime." Just for the record Carl Yastrzemski, Boston Red Sox outfield, was named 1967 "Professional Athlete of the Year" by the Academy of Professional Sports. The title was conferred on the academy's first annual awards program colorcast on Feb. 14. Sen George Murphy (R-Calif.) made the top award.
