16 DAILY DISPATCH, MOLINE, ILLINOIS: MONDAY EVENING, NOVEMBER 23, 1942. IBM IBmdkceyces aumaD. IBsiallgcBirs nun 'J A Redskins Must Face Bears! Ouch! Pro Grid Division Titles Are Settled Ohio State Wins Title; Wisconsin Takes Second Despite Beating Champs Chicago Swamps Detroit; Sam Baugh Leads Washington to 23-3 Triumph. Iowa "and Michigan Play for Third Place Saturday in Final Struggle. K) By International News Service WASHINGTON Redskins, by defeating the Brooklyn Dodgers, 23 to 3, had the doubtful privilege today of meeting the champion Chicago Bears for the National Football league title December 13.

In their last championship game with the mighty Bears in 1940, the Redskins limped from the field on the short end of a 73 to 0 score. Outplayed by the Dodgers in the first half, the Redskins came from behind to clinch the league's eastern division title at Washington yesterday in a game marked by a fist fight for which Perry Schwartz of Brooklyn and Bob Masterson of the home team were ejected from the field. Players and coaches from both teams and spectators swarmed over the field, and officials required six minutes to restore order, in the third period melee. SAMMY BAtIGH Scores his first touchdown in six pro seasons leading Washington Redskins to championship of eastern division of National Football By ARNOLD DERLITZKI. CHICAGO, Nov.

23. (JPy The Western conference, just by way of keeping its 1942 football season full of quirks and surprises to the end, today began paying championship and runner-up tribute to a couple of teams the Buckeyes of Ohio State and the Badgers of Wisconsin. Even in defeating Michigan for the title honors Saturday, Ohio State contributed its own parti6ular oddity. The Buckeyes, with one of the most powerful running attacks in the nation, turned to forward passes for all three of their touch- downs. Stranger still was the fact that Wisconsin, only team to whip the champions this year, had to settle for second, although it, too, lost but one game.

Schedule Differences. Schedule differences brought this about, Ohio State playing six games to Wisconsin's five. Each lost a game, but Coach Paul Brown's team, by winning one more, got the percentage edge and the title the first under Brown, but the second for the Buckeyes in the last four years. Strangest part of the whole business, of course, is the fact the conference does not recognize a cham- league. Nor. 33. ft Iowa's Hawkeyes, hoping to hold third place in the Big Ten football race, will finish their 1942 echedule against Michigan and the lows, Seahawks will challenge Ohio State, newly crowned Western conference champion, in games on foreign soil next Saturday.

Iowa had an open date last Saturday and will be in perfect condition for the Wolverines whos title hopes were blasted by Ohio State. It will be the last game for thirteen Hawkeye seniors. Including Tom Farmer, the ace passer, who will captain the Hawk In their finale. The Hawkeyes, with three victories In five Big Ten starts, would remain In third place with a triumph over the Wolverines, but a defeat would drop them Into a fifth place tie with Minnesota. Could Have Been Worse.

The Seahawks walloped Nebraska, 46 to 0, last Saturday In their only home appearance of the season, Lieut. Col. Bernle Biennan's squad was a perfect, football combination against Nebraska and would tiava rolled the score higher had the head coach kept hla first team busier than the 14 minutes in which It scored four touchdowns. Merlyn Condit put the Dodgers ahead In the first period with a 38-yard field goal, but the Redskins came back in the second quarter to take the lead on Sammy Baugh's pass to Cecil Hare for a touchdown. In the third period Baugh attempted to pass and finding no receivers, sprinted around end for his first league touchdown in six years of competition. Dick Poillon booted a 32-yard field goal and Hare scooped up Eddy Rucinski's fumble and ran 40 yards for a touchdown to end the Redskins' scoring in the final quarter. The victory gave Washington nine wins and one loss for the season.

At Detroit the Bears rolled over the Lions, 42 to 0, for their 22nd straight victory and their 16th consecutive league triumph. With the aid of the Green Bay-New York tie, the victory clinched the western division title for the Bears, who can lose their two remaining games and still finish 18 points ahead of the Packers. Five of the six Bear touchdowns came on passes by Sid Luckman and Charley O'Rourke with Harry Clark, Ray McLean, Hampton Pool, Hugh Gallarneau and John Siegal on the receiving end. Clark ran 27 yards for a first period touchdown, Tuffy Leemans and the underdog Giants held the Green Bay passing combination of Cecil Isbell-Don Hutson to a 2-1 to 21 tie at New York. Hutson, who usually sets a record every time he plays, caught 14 passes for 134 yards, nabbed two touchdown pitches and kicked three extra points to break an old jinx of never having scored against the Giants.

Leemans accounted for two Giants' touchdowns and Will Walls got the other with Ward Cuff kicking the three extra points. With four minutes to go Tony Canadeo added the third Green Bay touchdown and Hutson evened the count by kicking the extra point, Steelers Triumph. The Steelers clinched second place in the eastern division by trouncing the Chicago Cardinals, 19 to 3, at Pittsburgh. After spotting the Cardinals a field goal by Bill Dad-dio, Capt. Dick Riffle and George Gonda rang up a touchdown apiece and Armand Niccolai booted two field goals.

In an exhibition game the Cleveland Rams defeated the Wichita New York, Nov. 23. Snow and sleet failed to dampen the fighting spirit in the Mohawks and the Military Police game Sunday at Browning field as the Soldiers beat the Mohawks in the final clash of the season, 6 to 3. The game was highlighted by a perfect 35-yard field goal by Capt. Harold Leech of the Mohawks, which came in the first period. The Soldiers score came when a partly blocked kick rolled in the end zone and Megna recovered for the touchdown. The Mohawks stopped the Soldiers' aerial game, letting them complete only three passes.

The Military Police were unable to gain any yardage through the Mohawk line which was at its best form of the season. Schmidt piled up the Soldiers on more than one time for lost yardage. Nickerson Steps Out. The running of Nickerson, midget ball carrier from East Moline, contributed some thrilling moments. A 20-yard pass late in the last period from Engles to Wilson almost changed the score.

Wilson was hauled down by Mayer on the 20-yard line. The M. regained the tall on an interception and kicked out of danger. The Mohawks again began a march with the final whistle stopping them on the 15-yard line. The Mohawks intend to have a.

CHICAGO, Nov. 23. (P) Millikin university, for the second straight can take its place among the nation's undefeated and untied football teams. The Big Blue eleven from Decatur, scored its sixteenth consecutive triumph and its second straight Illinois College conference championship last Saturday by defeating Illinois College, 7-0, in its final game of the season. Ol its seven victories, five came over conference foes (Monmouth, Knox, Illinois Wesleyan, Lake Forest and Illinois College) and two over non league opponents Carrcll and Eastern Illinois Teachers of of Charleston.

Touchdown Twins. Saturday's winning touchdown was produced by the Big Blue's veteran backs from Belleville, 111. Ed Dahm paved the way with a 25-yard run and his fellow townsman, Capt. Virgil Wagner, drove over for the touchdown from the 2-yard line. Both are seniors and concluded their collegiate grid play with Saturday's game.

Wagner last year earned second team recognition on the Little All-America team and is regarded as a leading candidate again this season. Dahm and Wagner are among the six Millikin senior regulars who are members of rmy or navy reserve organizations. Four other regulars, all juniors, also are members and probably will be called to service before they get around to playing further college football. The team's eleventh regular could not get into a reserve organization because of defective eyesight. Touchdowns Clark 2, Pool, Gallarneau.
