id, "but the rest of the streets are falling apart due to the heavy traffic." Trucks would be able to make deliveries and service calls on non-routed streets. Mrs. DelaPaz said several residents also have complained about people living in motor homes while visiting friends and relatives. She said the large vehicles, when parked on the streets, can obstruct the vision of drivers at stop signs. Trustee Denny Brodd thanked the Orion School District for the use of a school bus to transport residents for weekly afternoon swims at the rural Hillcrest Recreation Area this summer.

During the seven weeks, 156 youth from Andover, 24 from Lynn Center and 118 from Orion participated in the program. Candidacy petitions for the April 1989 municipal elections are available at the village hall. Petitions must be filed between Dec. 12 and 19. Officials whose terms will expire include Mayor Barb DelaPaz, village clerk Lori Sampson, and trustees Steve Morse, Darrell Taets and Shirley Carney.

Residents digging up perennials for the winter are asked to contact Deb Ford or Shirley Carney by Oct. 7 if they have extra plants. The two women are working to establish a perennial flower bed in Orion Central Park. Mr. Brodd said his top priority for the parks is to build restrooms, and that he would like to use money from the Love Park Trust Fund for that purpose.

He said he also is talking with officials from the Little League, the Orion Fall Festival and other community organizations about funding. By Judy Melrhaeghe Correspondent ORION The village's proposed truck-traffic ordinance needs more research before it can achieve the results the village board is seeking.

Representatives from area trucking firms and the Orion Area Chamber of Commerce attended Monday night's village board meeting to learn how the proposed ordinance will limit noise, truck routing, overnight parking and other areas of concern. Roy Ator, of Ator Trucking, asked trustees to consider the ordinance's wording carefully. "Truck traffic will change tremendously in the next 10 years, as it has in the past 10 years, and the trucking businesses have put a lot of money into this town already," he said. Mayor Barb DelaPaz said the ordinance's rough draft is designed to give direction to truckers, to ease parking problems on narrow streets, and to save village streets. She said needed changes include an exemption to allow overnight parking for trucks on 10th and 11th Avenue west of the railroad tracks.

There are two trucking firms in that area, which is buffered by railroad tracks and buildings. Chamber president Jim Roberts asked the board to study the ordinance's impact on businesses, and the inconvenience it would cause truckers. He noted the proposed 5-ton weight limit could hamper farmers using tractors and wagons to carry feed to mills outside of town, and that the slow-moving vehicles could be a hazard if they are forced to use U.S. 150. The ordinance has no proposed truck route leading to the south edge of town.

Mrs. DelaPaz said street-program plans call for building up 7th Street and 15th Avenue as an alternate route for agri-business traffic. She said 11th Avenue, where truck traffic would be routed, is sol "9 Services are Saturday at I port; 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star; 50-year member of Daughters of the Nile; and served 25 years as secretary of Scott County Board of Review.
