The Tampa Tribune, Wednesday, August 11, 1993 report said. Trooper Robert French, 30, who lives in the Twin Lakes subdivision, said he knew the suspect, a former girlfriend, and said he had bought her the gun she used to shoot holes in a 1992 Nissan Stanza, the report said. Witnesses said the suspect came to French's house at about 1 a.m. Sunday and rang his doorbell. French came outside the house to talk to her, and they argued, the report said.

She slapped him twice, the report said. Then they argued at her car, and he went back inside his house. The woman then fired five shots into a car, which belonged to Karie Gibbs, 30, French's current girlfriend, a sheriff's report said. French came back outside with his revolver and fired it into the air. The woman fled, the report said.

A deputy confiscated French's revolver, the sheriff's report said. No charges were filed in the case, and it was referred to the State Attorney's Office, said sheriff's spokesman Jon Powers. Sheriff offers class in gun safety and shooting Stop being afraid of that gun. The sheriff's office is offering a gun safety class to teach pistol owners about properly handling and the laws about storing, carrying and using the firearm, said Sgt. Joe Frontz, who is in charge of the sheriff's armory.

Registration has begun for the 12-hour classes, which costs $12 and will be held monthly. The first class meets 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 9 and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sept. 11. Students are required to bring their own pistols and 100 rounds of ammunition, Frontz said. Pistols must pass a safety inspection before the class starts, and students must submit to a criminal history background check. "If you know nothing about the weapon, leave it in the condition it is in now and bring it to the class," Frontz said.

There will be four hours of classroom instruction, and the rest of the class will be hands-on instruction, including time at the shooting range, where students will fire at targets. Hospital firm wins 60-day extension PASCO COUNTY Man charged in sex assault on 2 brothers For more than four years, two brothers, fearing they may never see each other again, kept silent about what Sherman Grady Luckey was doing to them, police said. Now living several states away, the boys, felt safe enough to tell. Between March 1989 and March 1991, the boys said, Grady forced them to perform sex acts with him, sometimes while the other brother watched, according to a police report.

If they told anyone, Luckey threatened to force them to live apart, the report said. They remained silent for more than two years after they left Florida until they felt safe to tell juvenile authorities what had happened, the report said. The boys are now in their early teens, according to Capt. Robert Howell, and were related to Luckey by marriage. Acting on information received in June, Zephyrhills police investigated the allegations and arrested Luckey at about 8:30 p.m.

After 71 hours and 51 minutes, Davis gave out. Taylor said he had plenty motivation to win. "My boss told me I'd better drive that new car to work," he said. Taylor, who works for Gulf Hydraulics of New Port Richey, said he took four days off work for the contest and will likely go back to work Thursday after the swelling in his feet goes down. U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Thomas Baynes agreed Tuesday to extend the plan deadline to Oct. 9. It is the second such extension given to Regional Healthcare since it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Feb. 26.

The company operates Spring Hill Regional Hospital, Brooksville Regional Hospital and the Pinebrook Regional Medical Center. Without the delay, "We would have had to file a plan that nobody would have liked," said Robert Soriano, the Tampa attorney hired by Regional Healthcare to represent the company in bankruptcy court. Under bankruptcy rules, Regional Healthcare originally had 120 days to file the plan, a blueprint for revitalizing a hospital system that lost more than $9 million in the last year. Baynes granted the first extension in May, pushing the deadline back to this week because a new management team at the hospital had just been hired. Soriano said the new management, Quorum Health Resources "is on its feet now." But a meeting Thursday between Soriano, hospital board members and attorneys 1 for the company's major creditors flushed out problems with a draft of the reorganization plan Regional Healthcare was prepared to file, Soriano said.

Chief among those problems was determining the collateral held in Regional Healthcare by CNA Insurance Cos. Chicago, which holds about $57 million in bonds issued for expansion and renovations at the not-for-profit hospitals and has loaned another $3 million to Regional Healthcare for operating expenses. CNA's collateral does not equal $60 million, the draft plan contended. That would mean part of the Chicago company's claim against Regional Healthcare perhaps as much as $20 million would be unsecured, said Regional Healthcare in-house attorney Crystal Whitescarver. But filing the reorganization plan as drafted would result in endless litigation over the value of CNA's collateral, Whitescarver and Soriano said.

"It would be a big-time war a battle of the experts," Whitescarver said. "They (CNA) have told us, We'll litigate every issue and make it so expensive that even if you do win, you don't win." Whitescarver, whose job was originally slated to be cut early this month as part of cost-saving measures by Quorum, said Tuesday she will "probably be around until the end of the month. There's still a lot of issues to work out." Soriano said Regional Healthcare wants to avoid lengthy legal battles, preferring to iron out problems with the plan before it is filed. "We don't want things to go back to the way they were before. I mean, that was just ridiculous," Soriano said, referring to the clashes that pitted Regional Healthcare's former management against Hernando County officials and creditors.

That management team, led by former chief executive Steve Wenzel, was replaced in April by Quorum, a Nashville, hospital management company specializing in steering hospitals out of financial trouble. Quorum has smoothed relations with the county and creditors.
