That looms as one of Uie big questions for other loop coaches as Pat Gainey club unbeaten now in six games this season pre pares to hit the of their conference schedule next week Taylorsville recorded its sixth win this year and 71st consecu tive conference victory before the holidays with a win over Wilkes Central a highly regarded outfit riday night they return to ac tion meeting Hudson holders of an 0 2 conference record current ly but next Tuesday January 12 will be one of the bigger tests They hit arch rival Hickory on that date and Hickory currently holds a 2 0 loop mark Gainey readily admits this club not up to par" with the clubs he has fielded in the past five years when Taylorsville swept the league title each season Only two regulars are returning in onvard Patsy Land and Guard Ann Wilson Lost via graduation were ace fonvard Rebia Hefner who rewrote scoring records for ward Peggy Price and guards Martha Teague Rule Price Jane Elder and Coleen Benfield Bernadette ox a guard left school Joyce Barnes a promising forward who loomed big in Gain plans for this season got married and Marie Warren an other promising forward moved to Scotts whore she is on the squad there Lettermen returning are or wards Margie Price Carolyn Sie Alta Hefner Doris Sigmon and Land Guards Ann Wilson Virgin ia Keller Carolyn Bentley Jane Jenkins Polly Price and Connie Elder Kaye Wilson a freshman will see extensive action in the pivot spot for the Lady Bears It is the first time that Gainey has had a freshman as a regular on his club Wilson is expected to team with Land and Alta Hefner at the spot with Doris Sigmon the fourth for ward Defensively Ann Wilson Virgin ia Keller and Carolyn Bentley are expected to get the starting roles with Jane Jenkins and Connie Eld er the top reserves Only four Land Ann Wilson Sipe and Margie Price are on the squad Top opposition for Taylorsville will be in the form of Newton Con over and Hickory both undefeated in conference play at the moment RichanJ White is coaching the Taylorsville boys club this season White handled the jayvee squad a year ago and steps into the top spot to succeed Lynn Parker as sistant principal at Taylorsville This will be a rebuilding year for the Taylorsville lxys who had a 9 11 record last year and finished in sixth place in the conference standings Only two regulars are returning for the Bears in Guard Richard Gwaltney and Center Charles Bowman our other lettermen are back in Center 'Troy Watts orwards Mike Lackey and Mendel ox and Guard Leon ox Jerry Mitchell Ed Hedrick and Larry Chapman all up from jayvee club and Wayne Johnson a reserve with the 1958 59 varsity figure in plans The squad is composed of jun iors and seniors and White will coach the jayvee squad also plan ning to work extensively with his sophomores and freshmen there Hudson's boys are expected to be the kingpins in the Northwestern race this season and hold a 2 0 record Morganton has been a sur prise with a 3 0 mark and is expected to make the race a tough one MacKay Defeated CALCUTTA (UPD Ramana than Krishnan defeated Barry Mackay of Dayton Ohio 7 5 4 fi 6 3 6 4 Sunday to win the Asian lawn tamis championship Wake orest Duke Get Wins Wilson Suffers irst Setback In Girls League Wilson girls who com pleted pre holiday play with an unbeaten record suffered their first defeat of the season last night as they dropped a 48 40 decision to Munro to highlight city re creation league action at Senior High Gymnasium Elaine Harris poured 34 points through the nets and the club fought off a final period Wil son rally for their decision A 19 10 third period spree had put Mun ro into a commanding 39 21 lead Mary Ruth Godfrey hit lf and Margaret Warlick had 17 for Wilson In the other girls league tilt last night Statesville Business College racked up a one sided 32 12 win over Mitchell College limiting Mitchell to a single point in the final half Lynn Soothers hit 18 and Lala Woods had 14 for the winners while Sue Smith grab bed eight for Mitchell Kewaunee Technical urniture and Iredell Knitting were sched uled in the other girls league game but neither team had enough players to field a club league action found Staf ford's Esso taking a 46 36 win over Mitchell Cojlcge and VW notched a 38 decision over Statesville Brick and Mitchell were i' I 4 1 I i NEW ANNOUNCER?
