MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 1935 THE HOLLAND, MICHIGAN, EVENING SENTINEL PAGE THREI Hope Orchestra to Give First Concert of Season The Hope College 'Orchestra will present its first concert of the 1955-56 season Tuesday evening at 8:30 in Hope Memorial Chapel. Featured soloists for the program will be three senior students, David Martin of Herkimer, N.Y., Nelvie Jonker of Orange City, Iowa, and Nick Pool ot Union City, N.J. Martin, violinist, will be heard in the first movement of the Beethoven Concerto for violin and orchestra. Miss Jonker will sing "My Heart at Thy Sweet Voice" from Saint Saens "Sampson and Delilah" and Pool will flay the popular "Rhapsody in Blue" for piano and orchestra by George Gershwin. Other portions of the program will' include the overture to the Bizet opera "ThePearl fishers" and' two colorful Russian dances by Gesensway.

The Hope Orchestra of 55 players, directed by Morette Rider, will present an extensive series of concerts during the year. In addition to several evening concerts in Hope Chapel, the group will provide accompaniment for "The Messiah" presentation and give a series of children's concerts in Holland and other Michigan communities. The Symphonette, which is a subdivision of the regular orchestra, also will appear on several occasions in Holland and will make a two-week concert tour of Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and other Midwestern states in the spring. The public is invited to all the orchestra programs in Hope Chapel. Bridal Shower Given For Miss Isla Timmer A bridal shower was given last Tuesday evening, Nov.

15, in honor of Miss Isla Timmer at the home of Mrs. John Lenters in Holland Heights. Hostess was Mrs. Adrian Timmer. Florence Eshelman, and committee. Mrs. Mary Blackburn, class president, presided- at the business meeting. The budget for 1956 was presented Mrs. Marjone Smeenge, chairman of the finance committee.

For the devotional period Miss Clarabelle Wright chose "Gifts" as her theme. Pledges were presented at the worship center. Two solos were sung by Mrs. Aletha Hildebrand. She sang "Autumn Leaves" and "Be the Best of Whatever You Are," accompanied by Mrs.

Queenie Keane. Guest speaker for the evening, Mrs. Herman Kamphouse, of the City Mission had as her theme "The Good Samaritan." She brought out the need of a helping hand in our day and in our own city. The meeting closed with the class song led by Mrs. Ramona Eagles Auxiliary Has Regular Meet A regular meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary of Eagles was held at the lodge hall Friday evening with Mrs.

Ruth Driy presiding. Twenty-three members attended. The group donated $50 to the Muscular Dystrophy Fund, a project of the national auxiliary. Plans were made for a Christmas party on DecT 14. Cards were played and prizes awarded to Mrs.

The Rt. Rev. Dudley Barr McNeil, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan, who was unable to make his annual visit to Grace Church Sunday because of illness, will be in Holland next Sunday, Nov. 27, to confirm candidates at a 7:30 p.m. service.

The service scheduled at 11 a.m. Sunday will be held at that time. and Mrs. Robert F. Van Ins and daughter, Jenny, arrived in Holland the early part of this month from England where Von Ins has been in the Air Force.

He received his discharge in New York on Nov. 3. He has been in lor 55 most of which was at Woodbridge Air Force Base in England. His wife is the former Mazie Warren of Ipswich, England. Von Ins, son of Mr.

and Mrs. Urs Von Ins, will be in charge of Von Ins Grocery Store on North River Ave. Lt. Peter Van Domelen, USISTR. has been released from active duty with the U.S.

Navy after serving two years aboard the USS Columbus. CA 74, attached to the United States Atlantic and Mediterranean Fleets. He is presently engaged in the practice of law in Grand Rapids, having accepted a position with the firm of Warner, Norcross and Judd. Lt. Van Domelen is the son of Mr.

and Mrs. Peter Van Domelen, 1409 South Shore Dr. Army Pfc. Morris De Vries, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Case De Vries, 31 Allen Hudsonville, is participating in the Army-Air Force maneuver, Exercise Sage Brush, in Louisiana, according to the Home Town News Center. Pfc. De Vries, stationed at Fort Hood, is a member of Battery of the 4th Armored Division's 22nd Field Artillery Battalion. His wife, Beatrice, lives in Gatesville, Tex. The All-Negro Church Chior of Covert will be featured at the City Mission Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

A 30-minute sound film, "Giving Thanks Always" also will be shown. The public is invited. Charter banquet of the Advertising Club of Western Michigan will be held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Occidental Hotel in Muskegon. Speaker will be Ben A.

Mrs. Bastian Kruithof of Grand Rapids of her experiences in Scotland at a joint meeting of the Women's Missionary Society and Fellowship Guild in Sixth Reformed Church Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Special music will be given by Misses Joy Korver and Doris Spickle, Hope College students. Members are reminded to bring unwrapped Christmas gifts for the mission box for Lawton, and also return the "drum banks" for Dulce, N.M. Bill DuMond, Bob Sova, Mike De Jonge, Gerrit De Jonge and Herb Stoel returned home Saturday night after deer hunting in the Upper Peninsula. Sova bagged an eight-point buck and Stoel got a six-point buck. Word has been recived here of the death of Mrs.

Matilda Wubbena of Forreston, formerly of Holland. She died Sunday afternoon at the Freeport, 111., hospital. Mrs. Wubbena was the former Matilda De Feyter of Holland. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at Forreston.

7th Graders to Take Part In Dedication of School Seventh a will take a prominent part in dedication ceremonies at the new Thomas son School Tuesday at 8 p.m. in presenting a pageant entitled "The Voice of Democracy" in five episodes. Charles Ragains will serve as narrator, Brian Taber will be the voice of Thomas Jefferson and Conner will be the voice of "Democracy. In the cast are Nova White, Cherrie Mannes, Judy Essenburg, Earl Haverdink, Vandenberg, Mel Andringa, David Stryker, Jerry Baumann, Keith Zuber, Bill Beekman and several others. Other seventh graders will serve as ushers and guides as well as playing in the seventh grade band and singing in the chorus.

The pageant, written by David Scobie and Mrs. Katherine Winter, opens with a prologue, and the various episodes are interspersed with band music. i one shows a Jefferson as a young boy hearing Patrick Henry's speech of taxation. Episode two shows the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The third episode shows Jefferson at home with his wife and their two daughters at Monticello.

The fourth episode shows Jefferson as a national figure making the Louisiana Purchase. The fifth episode shows his later life and passing, with homage paid to his memory. The school chorus under the direction of Mrs. Emily Shaffer will sing "The Testament of Freedom." The invocation will be given by Dr. S.

Franklin Logsdon and the benediction by the Rev. Rozendal. Presentation of keys will be by M. M. Williams of Warren Holmes architects, and the acceptance will be by James A.

Hallan, president of the Board of Education. Construction Supervisor Arthur will explain how the building was built and Principal C. Norlin will give a tribute to the past and a pledge to the future. Jefferson PTA officers are Hans Suzenaar, president; Mrs. Leon Kleis, vice president; Mrs.

'Specific Sought in Crash Probe SEATTLE, Wash. (UP) jCAB investigators searched for "specific evidence" today in the probe of the crash of a DC4 last Friday in which 27 of 74 persons aboard tied. The wreckage was under military guard in suburban Seattle near Boeing Airfield. Frank K. McKlveen, Seattle CAB representative, said investigators would "get into the meat" of the probe within the next few days.

Allen, 56, escaped from jail Sunday by faking a heart attack, slipping out of his shackles at hospital, and commandeering car a knife held at the driver's throat. Mrs. Louis Humbert was initiated in a formal ceremony. A business meeting followed. Mrs. Kenneth Dykstra, chairman of the welfare committee, discussed plans for the needy family to be remembered at Christmas.

The buffet was decorated in a Thanksgiving motif by Mrs. G. Conklin and her committee. Prize of the evening was won by Mrs. Richard Volkers.

and Mrs. Wynard Bos Thursday evening at their home on route 3, Zeeland. The Bos family plans to move to Zeeland city in the near future- Hymns were sung. A lighted picture was presented to the couple. A two-course lunch was served.

CE to Present Play at Zeeland The Senior Christian Endeavor Society of First Reformed Church of Zeeland will present its annual play Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 23 and 24 at the church at 8 p.m. The play is "Follow Thou Me," a Biblical drama in four acts written by Mary S. Hitchcock. The play takes place in 33 A.D.

at the palace of Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor, in Jerusalem. Members of the cast are Elizabeth, played by Betty Boeve; Beatrice, Norma Knoll; Claudia, Joan Pyle; Adah, Van Dyke; Pontius Pilate, Norman Vruggink; Lucius, Ken Evink; Miriam, Marilyn Vruggink; Daniel, George Schipper; Seress, Brenda Lokers; Princess Anna, Mary Schipper; Sara, Arlene Cranmer; Caiaphas, Vernon Meeuwsen; Priest, Wayne Millafd. luemueis are: Ladies in-Waiting, Mary Bloemsma, Mary Meeusen, Yvonne Dams, and Pat Vanden Berg. Roysters are Bob Walters and Wally Van Asselt. The play is being directed by Mrs.

W. Van Asselt and Mrs. G. Van Home. The CE Society of the First Reformed Church presents a play annually, proceeds being used for mission work.

The public is invited. Builders Class Has Birthday Celebration The Builders Class of First Methodist Church met Thursday evening for a birthday party at the home of Mrs. Lee Hessler. Celebrating their birthdays were Mrs. Bertha Hessler, Mrs.

Mamie Slagh, Mrs. Esther Nynas, Mrs. Eleanor Walker and Mrs. Lauretta Van Raalte. Games were played and prizes won by Mrs.

Slagh, Mrs. Nynas, Mrs. Ann Borgeson and Mrs. Van Raalte. Birthday cake was served by the hostess.

There were 15 members present, with the new member, Mrs. Eleanor Walker, and a guest, Mrs. Clara Monetza. The next regular meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Minnie Rotman.

Lone Survivor Suffered Serious Burns in Crash TOKYO (UP)--The only survivor in the crash of a U.S. Air Force C24 Globemaster that killed 10 persons on Iwo Jima Sunday suffered serious burns," the Air Force said today. The survivor, whose name was withheld, was flown to Japan a few hours after the crash and was being treated at the U.S. Air Force Hospital at Tachikawa near Tokyo. The Globemaster crashed seconds after takeoff at Central Air Base on the famed World War battle site.

Couple to Mark 50th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tuls of 987 Paw Paw will celebrate their 1 golden wedding anniversary Wednesday, Nov. 23, with open house at their home from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. On Thanksgiving Day a family dinner will be held for their children, John Tuls of Grand Rapids, Mrs.

Simon Borr, Mrs. William Van Der Veere, Henry Tuls, Vernon Tuls and Donald Tuls. The family includes 19 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Both Mr. and Mrs.

Tuls have been residents of Holland all their lives. They are charter members of Holland Heights Christian Reformed Church. Party Honors Child On Fifth Birthday Diane Ruth Kammeraad, daughter of MrT and Mrs. John L. Kammeraad, was honored party a her home on route 4 Saturday afternoon.

The occassion marked her fifth birthday anniversary. Following several songs by the group, games were played with prizes going to Helen Gordon, Carla Slagh, Mary Sparks and Joan Wehrmeyer, Others present were Lonna Bosnia, Betty Lou Guildford, Kathy Johnson, Linda Schregardus and Marcia Wolters. Guests included classmates of the kindergarten at Beechwood School. Lunch was served by Mrs. Kammeraad, assisted by Diane's grandmother, Mrs.
