FELLOWSHIP long Some Georgia lawyers insist that a man shouldn't be punished for peonage, because comparatively few peo ple know the law. If there are any people in the Southern states who don't know what peonage is.

they should be sent to jail for ignorance, for certainly this section has had enough trouble about it. Peonage is said to be practiced largely in New York and other big eities, particular ly among the Jews, Italians and Slavs, who enable people of their national ities to come from Europe, and then make them work out the debt at interest and compound interest. It is very seldom, however, that the federal government notices this offense in the north. It keeps its guns load ed for the South. Fellowship, Jlay 17.

If the army officers wanted to keep Sergeant Breadvad out of the hands of. Florida officers, they should have sent, him out of the state in an air plane. Wouldn't jagged be Gainesville has a law to keep the chickens off "the street. What are they trying to do protect the college Petersburg Times.

Those young scamps don't need any protection. The arrest of ex-Sergeant Breadvad in Jacksonville, at the orders of Gov. Hardee, on charge of being an accomplice in the killing of Fred Pitt in Punta Gorda some weeks ago, was the correct procedure, and if Breadvad has been discharged from the army we fail to see why the federal government has anything more to do with his case, unless it be to secure counsel for him. From all the evidence we have seen, he was acting under orders of his superior officer, and therefore should be held guiltless. We think he should be given a change of venire, as judging from what some of the DeSoto papers say I feeling runs high against him in that county.

Says the Clearwater Sun: "Should the state capital be moved from Talla hassee to Clearwater the legislators would find plenty of amusement fish ing, boating and golfing and perhaps wouldn't work so hard passing bills that worry the state and keep con tinually causing delegations from first one section or another to spend their good money going all the way to the northwest corner of the state to protect their rights from those elected for that purpose. But should a delegation find it necessary to come to Clearwater they would also have a pleasant trip. Yes, the state capi tal should be removed to Clearwa ter." Fosnot has bought, torn down and moved by truck the old Lake Weir Baptist church, which has stood idle for the past twenty years or practically since the big freeze of '95, when the members of church were scattered to the four winds of the globe. Everybody on the lake has a soft spot in their hearts for dear old Bob, who is always ready with his strong right arm to defend the weak, be it a woman, child or a bedraggled kitten in need of help and we feel there is a public sentiment among the people of the lake that as the old church was abandoned as a place of worship, there is no one we would rather see sheltered by its hallowed walls than Bob and his bonny wife and child. May they live long and enjoy the substantial home he will build from the old church on the crest of the hill at Eastlake, overlooking the limpid waters of the most beautiful lake in Florida.
