The Tampa Tribune, Friday, October 16, 1992 MarionAlachua-3 SUBSCRIBE TODAY: Call 1-800-282-5588. TV broadcast leads to tips in 1971 slaying; COUNTRY AT HOME I I Located In the 5f of Inverness HEW FALL MERCHANDISE HAS ARRIVED Come in and Sniff the Aromas of: A. Witches Brew Little Miss Panasoffkee's body was discovered by two hitchhikers Authorities estimated she had been dead about a month before she was" found. A man's belt, size 36, was looped around her neck. Although the woman was not identified, autopsy results show the she was 18 or 19 when she died.

She had extensive dental work and an uncommon and expensive type of surgery performed on her right ankle. She also had given birth at least once. Adams, elected In 1980, had the body exhumed In 1986. Forensic artist Linda Galeener drew a sketch, of the woman using the skull to project facial features. Galeener then tried an unprece-' dented technique: Drawing the woman as she might have appeared at earlier ages.

All the drawings were shown on Wednesday night's program. from the callers, and sheriffs Capt. Bill Farmer, the lead Investigator In the case, will call back when he returns, Fussell said. More calls trickled Into the sheriff's office Thursday. Another unexpected turn took place Thursday morning.

A Lake County man showed up at the sheriffs office with a photograph of a woman he picked up hitchhiking In December 1970. Adams said. The photograph Is of a woman who is "almost a perfect match" to the one In a composite sketch of the victim, said Adams. The man, whose name Adams would not release, told the sheriff the woman was headed to Tampa when he dropped her off at a bus station in Wildwood. Adams said he did not know why the man photographed a hitchhiker and kept the picture so long, but plans to speak with him further.

Halloween Candy Adams says be doesn't know exactly how many calls were received, but one "looks very Interesting." A caller from Minnesota told Investigators a member of her family was seen In Clearwater about the time Little Miss Panasoffkee's body was found Feb. 19, 1971, floating beneath the Lake Panasoffkee bridge on Interstate 75, Adams said. Adams did not know whether other critical details matched those of the slaying victim, but said, "It fits the time frame. We're real excited, but we've been excited before." Investigators plan to follow up the tip. The sheriff's office got more than a dozen calls Wednesday night from as far away as Iowa, South Carolina and Texas, "and they didn't even broadcast our phone number," said sheriff's Capt.
