Schoolcraft now has five ordinates of the fourth degree, at Hiawatha, Inwood, Kate's Bay, Germfask and Birthday, in addition to the fifth degree Delcraft Pomona. Most were organized in 1909, when nine units were formed here. Absent when the roll was called Friday night, due to discontinuance, were Hutchinson, Horton and Doyle units.

The Horton unit, whose hall burned in the 1930s became affiliated with Birthday Grange in 1935. When Grange units first were organized here, they actively promoted farming and served as social organizations for members, who traveled little in those days. With the advent of modern transportation, the role of the Grange as a social group has diminished, but its function in seeking betterment of rural communities has expanded into many areas other than agriculture. motion of legislation and benefits are among its functions. Birthday hall was packed for the observance Friday night, which Grover Grigsby, state deputy of Allegan attended.

Blue and gold decorations were used in the hall and two anniversary cakes centered the serving tables. Square dancing followed the program. Mrs. Young Honored For Census Work Mrs. Vilas (Elva) Young of Manistique has received a certifiof award from the U.
