sst4 it mm SATISFIED And ifjsc BLOOMINGDALE Things have gotten a little crowded at the Marshall home since October 1991. That was when Robin and Bill Marshall founded the Rebekah Home and remodeled their residence to accommodate abused, neglected and runaway children. "Within weeks we filled to capacity with 10 girls," Robin told members of the Kiwanls Club of Greater Brandon at the club's July 16 meeting. "We are now turning away seven children a day," she added. With space at a premium in the old homestead, the non-profit organization hopes to purchase a ranch in the Brandon area to provide additional room for "hurting kids," Robin said.

Owners of the property have agreed to sell the property, valued at $400,000, for $250,000, she told the Kiwanians. "We only need $6,000 more to complete the purchase," Robin said in an Aug. 6 telephone interview with The Tampa Tribune. River Hills Country Club is sponsoring a golf tournament Monday to benefit the home, Robin said. Signup is at 8:30 a.m.

for the 9 a.m. shotgun start four-player scramble tourney. Entry fee is $50. Pro golfer Steve Dumick plans to be on hand at the event and to offer a free seminar after the tournament. Robin said Ron Slivka Buick is offering a car, a set of golf clubs and a trip for two to Germany as prizes and other awards include Disney World and Sea World passes and restaurant gift certificates.

River Hills is located at 3943 New River Hills Parkway in Valri-co, off Lithia-Pinecrest Road. For further information, call Brad Ray or any golf pro shop staffer at 653-3323. Robin also is seeking volunteers Danielle Megan Virtue to share talents including arts and crafts and "personal experience that can be useful in children's lives," she told the Kiwanians. Individuals who want to offer help In these areas should call the Rebekah Home at 653-0714. Pageant held in Tampa July 25 and 26.

The daughter of David and Darlene Virtue, Danielle has taken acting classes at the Tampa Academy of Performing Arts and tap, ballet and jazz lessons at Shirley's Dance School. She also has done print and commercial work as a talent and model with Irene Marie Model and Talent Agency. In the Young American Miss national competition, Danielle will complete in spokesmodel, cover girl, Model of the Year, swimwear, actress and print-model events. Behind the beauty Is also business acumen. One of Danielle's proudest accomplishments, said her mother, is "learning how to read as a first-grader at Alafia Elementary School." The tiny tot wanted to be able to read her own scripts instead of learning the lines from her mother, Darlene explained.

The fair is the second Tampa-based celebration to deal with issue of minority participation in the past year.

Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla inducted its first black members this year, while two new krewes one for women and an integrated, coed krewe of young professionals will join the 1993 version of the gala that features a parade and simulated pirate invasion of the city. "It's important for the black kids, but the white kids need to know it, too." Too many children of all races still see images of blacks as a group that contributes nothing to society, Poole said. "When we change the attitude of the do-nothing, no contribution and the welfare then we're getting somewhere," Poole said.
