David Humm's pass to Bob Revelle for 15, then a 10-yard strike completed because of a good, reaching grab by Jerry List took the ball to the five. Humm rolled to pass, found a clear path and scooted right end for the touchdown.

FOR 13-YARD CYCLONE i foo n.vAsn r.vnrtMF age in the Big Eight Sure, the Cyclones have knocked over some people in the last two years but this time they went head-to-head with Big Daddy, apparently had folded and came back to life in as startling a fashion as Lazarus. Merv also recovered a fumble, then did it again and hit Humm who was anxiously peering into the end zone to find a receiver and forced another fumble recovered by linebacker Tom Karr. John Sehwcizer, Barry Hill (owner of two interceptions), Ted Jornov, Ken Caratelli, Larry Hunt, Brad Storm and some others were only a step behind in fury and efficiency, which helped a lot. Imagine getting this far in a story having only barely mentioned Rodgers, one of college football's most exciting backs. One reason is that the Cyclones prepared for him well and carried out the plan. "We had three kicking plans against him: To kick out of bounds with Greg Mulhall; from midfield.

having Doug Keown kick high and short; and the long field goal try that could be aimed out of bounds," said Majors. Moses Moore and Amundson combined to take the ball to the lfi, Mike Strachan fielded a pass for eight, then Amundson fired a line drive and Keith Krepfle converted it into a touchdown with a reaching, falling catch just inside the end zone. Tom Goedjen kicked the point. Time left 12:42. Iowa State 10, Nebraska 7 Husker errors and Cyclone alertness kept the visitors in trouble.

Brad Storm's tackle of Husker Maury Damkroger let Doug Wilke recover a fumble; Barry Hill inler-c cl a pass; Merv Krakau's tackle jarred the ball loose from Jeff Moran and linebacker John McKillop recovered on the Husker 34. THIRD QUARTER Iowa State 17, Nebraska 13 A strange sequence involved Iowa State intercepting a pass, then the Huskers stealing one right back, followed by Big Daddy Hunt forcing a Husker fumble recovered by Krakau and followed by Dave Mason intercepting Amundson's pass on the one. Krakau and Tom Karr made big stops, forcing the Huskers to punt from the three and John Sehwcizer returned it 10 yards to the Nebraska 35. On second down, Amundson lifted a lazy pass with Krepfle took on about the five and carried in, for a 33-yard play, taking linebacker Johnny Pitts along for the ride. Goedjen converted.

Defenses against running were so tough that Husker sophomore quarterback David! S4 I (. 28. lie caught nine passes for 113 yards. "Our plan was to try and keep him from getting deep and turned around on passes," said Majors. "And our outside people had to keep constantly alert on his coming across the middle.

He's a game-breaker. "This is a great Nebraska team. The game could have been won by cither team. Day in and day out, Nebraska would be the nation's best college team." This has been the day it wasn't. It didn't figure in the scoring, but home fans we.rc amused and pleased when the Cyclones trotted out an old, old play variously called "the cowpusture play" and "the swinging gate" and made 15 yards to midfield.

"We were lucky to get a tie and we didn't take Iowa State lightly the most, mistake-prone game we've ever played." One of the many fine combinations of work by the Cyclones was in Dave Pittman, Geary Murdock, Sherman Miller and some others doing a solid, respectable job of keeping all-America nose guard Rich Glover off Big George's neck. The Cyclones are virtually certain of rising in the Associated Press poll and they ranked No. 17 the last time out. Four bowl scouts watched this one.
