You can't dominate a football game any more fully, than mighty Nebraska did against Missouri Saturday.

"This is the best we've played this year," said Coach Bob Devaney after his top-s ranked Cornhuskers cruised to a 36-0 victory, hiking their unbeaten streak to 24 games. "Missouri has a tough defense, but we were able to gain 603 yards. That speaks pretty well for our offense and I thought our defense was the best it's been all year, too." The sixty-sixth renewal of the rivalry began with Texas driving 44 yards after an Oklahoma fumble and Wigginton, subbing for Eddie Phillips, rammed it across from five yards out. The Sooners quickly retaliated on a 46-yard run by Pruitt which set up his one-yard touchdown. A 44-yard run by Wigginton and a three-yard run by Bell left it tied But runs of four and 20 yards by Pruitt in the second quarter put Oklahoma comfortably in the lead to stay. N.13 Kansas St. N.2J Okla D.4 Hawaii proud Tiger defense was quarterback Jerry Tagge, piling up 319 yards 234 passing, 85 rushing to surpass his own school record of 301 set against Minnesota two years ago. "That's unbelievable I just can't believe I could gain that many yards against a team like Missouri," said the happy Tagge. "We were expecting a hard time and were all fired up just to win the game. I don't think any of us felt we could do it by such a big score." Missouri, suffering its worst defeat since Oklahoma slapped a 39-0 whitewashing on the Tigers back in 1958, was never in the game although it became the first team to hold Nebraska scoreless in the first quarter this season.

But even then, it had become quite obvious to the sellout crowd of 61,200 that there was a big difference between these two Big Eight teams. Huskers Romp Tailback Jeff Kinney plunged for two second-quarter touchdowns as the Huskers moved out to a 16-0 halftime lead, and it was all downhill after that with Missouri unable to mount any kind of a serious offensive threat. The Tigers, who now have lost four of their first five starts under new Coach Al Onofrio, totaled only 113 yards for the long afternoon just nine by rushing. Their best weapon was the quick-kicking of Jack Bas-table, but even that backfired when Nebraska stormed through to block one for a safety in the second quarter. "We were kind of waiting for that one," explained Devaney.

"Missouri had used the quick kick to get out of trouble three times, and with third down on I Tagge capped an 80-yard march by hammering across from the one on the last play of the quarter. Joe its own six, we sent Monte Johnson in to put on what we call a pressure stunt. He broke through to block the kick. The safety gave Nebraska a 9-0 lead and it also gave the Cornhuskers good field position following the ensuing Missouri punt from its 20. Added Play It was returned to Nebraska's 45, from where the relentless Big Red stormed downfield in 14 plays for Kinney's second touchdown witn a little more than one minute to go in the half. Then, during the inter mission, they added a play that was to result in a 28-yard scor ing pass from Tagge to fleet Johnny Rodgers in the third quarter.

"Last year we'd been successful against Missouri with flat passes to Rodgers," said Tagge, "but they played him really tough to the outside this time and weren't going to give us any of those. "So, at halftime, we put in the play where Johnny would fake to the outside, then cut down over the middle. He made a great catch and must have carried the defensive back seven or eight yards into the end zone." Rodgers, whose five recep tions netted 106 yards, causes opponents many worries with his dangerous speed, and one of the problems is to keep him under control on punt returns. This led to the early quick-kick- ing strategy. "We used it to avoid kicking the ball to Rodgers," admitted Onofrio.

Workhorse Kinney slammed his way to 88 yards in 23 carries, Tagge netted his 85 on nine option runs and fullback Bill Olds totaled 66 in 13 tries. After the burly Tagge engineered another long drive, which ended with his one-yard scoring plunge on the last play of the third quarter, he turned thmgs over to Van Brownson of Shenandoah, in the final period.

Brownson piloted a 52-yard march to another score, pitching the ball to Jeff Hughes for an end run from the nine that produced the touchdown. Meanwhile, with Nebraska's overpowering defense stop ping just about everything Missouri tried, Onofrio removed starting quarterback Chuck Roper in the second half to give sophomore Ed Johndrow his first battle test. The rookie twice, led ad vances into Nebraska territory with his passing, one to the 15 and later to the 30, but each time an interception thwarted the bid. "Johndrow did some things well," said Onofrio, "but this just wasn't a very fair test for him." Nebraska's 603-yard total was the most Missouri has ever surrendered by one yard. Oklahoma netted 602 against the Tigers in 1956.

But then, almost everything these awesome Cornhuskers do is of record-breaking proportions anymore. They have walloped their first five opponents this season by the staggering margin of 181-27. SECOND QUARTER Nebraska 7, Missouri 0 Although dominating the first half, Nebraska couldn't score until midway in the second period. Quarterback Jerry Tagge drove the Cornhuskers 67 yards in 14 plays, Jeff Kinney going the final yard. Tagge's first four option runs of the game netted 79 yards and he contributed a 15-yard keeper to the scoring advance.
