Mr. Paulhaber has been engaged In th business in Chicago for many years and Is cne of the most widely known Germans In th city.

Simultaneously with the report of the wine merchant's attempt at suicide petition appeared in th files of the County Court declaring the Insolvency of his business Interests and making an assignment to Charles W. Kefer. This was the direct cans leading up to Mr. Fsulhsbeff attempt to Uke his own life. Shortly after o'clock yesterday morning John M.

Faulhaber. smeiled gas escaping from his father's bedroom. Th windows In tb room were hastily thrown open and Mr. faulhaber was asked If he felt 11L declared he did not and requested th son to Jeave th room. The young man bad scarcely left the room srhen he heard the report of rerolver.

Mrs. Faulbaber had also heard th report, and with her son hastened to her husbsnd's apartments. Mr. Faulbaber was lyins on th floor beside th bed with blood flowing from a wound In his left breast. A revolver was found lying reside Mr.

Faulhaber. and after placing his father on th bed young Faulbaber sent for a physician. Mr. Faulhaber visited his attorney. Arnold Tripp, 1st Thursday evening la relation to making an assignment.

After a consultation V. wa concluded, that this was the only course left for th win merchant to adopt, and th deed of assignment was executed. When Mr. Faulhaber left his lawyer's efflce he was very much depressed. John M.

Faulhaber is C4 years of age. His femllr consists of his wife and two sons. John sged 22. and Philip, aged years. Mr.

Deputy Coroner McNally conducted an inquest at th county morgue yesterday morning over the remains of Harry M. Conway end Grace Cark. and th Jury returned a verdict to th effect that Conway was shot to death by th Clark woman, who afterward committed suicide by shooting herself. It developed at th Inquest that th woman waa not th lawful wlf of Conway, but that they bad lived together at th house where the tragedy occurred for some time. George W.

Conway, a brother, was the flrst witness called. He said bis brother frequently called upon him at bis residence. No. 93 Washtenaw avenu. and on on occasion had told blm was not married to Grace Clark.

Mrs. Jennie Johnson, tb proprietor of th boardlng-honse at No. Ml West Madison street, where Conway and tb Clark woman lived, said they went as man and wife. She said they frequency quarreled and she also told of bearing the shot fired and cf entering th room and finding th bodies. Jlrs.

Johnson said the Clark woman had often made threat that she would kUI Conway. W. Kslley. who was In the bout when th shooting described th position In which th bodies lay whan they wr found.
