The athletic events of the day have suffered the handicap of a heary track as a result of the rain which has been falling intermittently since last night. The events were started at 2 o'clock promptly with the following results in the first two: 50-yard Dash Monmouth, 1st, 6 sec onds; Moline. 2d; Galva, 3d.

MOLINE. Old 'phone New 'phone 8424 Ministers of the Churches of Illinois and Neighboring States Are in Session To Appoint Two Evangelists. Ministers of the Free Swedish Evangelical church of Illinois and neighboring states are holding their semiannual conference at the local church. Thirteenth avenue and Eleventh street. The exercises were opened by the Rev.

F. A. Nelson of this city, who delivered a brief address of welcome. He was followed by the Rex. Chas.

Nelson 6f Rockford, who responded to the hearty words of welcome and preached an eloquent sermon. The Rev. J. A. Young, president of the Free Swedish Evangelical mission of Amer ica, also delivered a sermon.

The second session was held this afternoon, business, matters having occupied the attention of the ministers. It was decided among other things to appoint at least two travel ing evangelists to cover the state during the summer months, holding evangelistic services in a large tent which will be provided by the church. Services will xlso be held in churches by the evangelists. It is hoped by inaugurating a move ment of this kind to arouse a greater interest in the church which Is rapidly growing, and thus add many "hew members in the cities and villages where there is Swedish population. Sermons will be delivered this evening by the Rev.

C. E. Nelson of Laite View, and the Rev. G. A.

Young of Chicago. Saturday afternoon will be devoted to business, and in the evening, the Rev. Andrew Anderson of Chicago and the Rev. Gust Johnson of Rockford will preach. Sunday will be the big day of the conference, but the program has not been outlined in full.

Several dele gates are expected to" arrive this af ternoon and tomorrow, consequently the arrangements for the closing' day will be deferred until tomorrow. The ministers who have arrived to attend the meeting are: G. A. Young, Chicago. P.

Johnsdn, the former Moline sa loonkeeper, has purchased the seven to eight acres on Rock river that has been advertised for sale in the Dispatch by J. M. Suman. Mr. Johnson spends his summers" in his lodge just east of the Norwegian camp on Rock river, and now that he has bought the Suman place he has property oi both sides of the camp.

Members of the Masonic fraternity in Rock Island Scott counties will hold their second annual picnic and outing this year at Schuetzen park in Davenport. The date will be either during the latter part of July or early in August. A year ago the Rock Island and Scott County Masonic, Picnic association was organized, and the first outing was held at Prospect park. Good fellowship and the intermingling of the members of the various lodges hereabout is the object sought in pro moting the picnics. yesterday was awarded the contract for cement and tile work amounting to $8000 to be, done at the Watertown asylum in connection with the erec tion of the new ward building and the improvement of the grounds. This latest contract adds one more to the long list of tri-city concerns which have done practically all the work on the new $125,000 ward building. The construction work is being rushed with a view to completing the building for occupancy by the 1st or 15th of July. The date set in the con tract was completion by June 1 and ready for occupancy July 1, but in ability to secure material last fall seriously hampered progress. Rock Island county's quota at the institution is overdrawn, for which reason no additional patients can be sent from this county till vacancies occur.

Mrs. Ann McKeever. 72 years of age, was adjudged insane yester day as a result of the use of stimu lants, but she must remain at St. An thony's hospital till a place is made for her at the asylum. PLOW CO.

Ebi of Deere Co. has been promoted to the position of traffic manager, an office recently created by the consolidation of the traffic work of the Moline factory with that of the various houses at St, Louis, Omaha, Potland, San Francisco and other points scattered through the west. The position carries with it considerable responsibility, and the selection of Mr. Ebi is marked recog nition of his ability. YOUNG McCOMBS.
