A Webstcrian Demonstration Last evening, at about 8 o'clock, the Massachusetts delegation assembled at Carroll Hall, their headquarters, preparatory to a procession. The room was crowded with delegates and citizens of Baltimore, who were treated with several favorite pieces by the Boston Bras Band, led by Mr. F.dward Kendall, one of which was tho famous "Wood-Up liniek Step." The line was then formed and marched past the various hotels, at each of which three cheers were inv ariably given for Daniel Webster with uniform enthusiasm.

The demonstration was amrmenied from the fact that many crowded aiound to hear the music, which, of course, was very fine. While the foregoing was progressing, the friends of the other distinguished candidates were presenting their claims to la'ge and attentive crowds. The defence called Thomas Atkinson, the father of he accused. He test ified to the general actions of the accused, the night before the murder, which went to show that he was crazy, and laboring under the efiOcts of mania a potit. He was running and said five or six men were following him ith sticks. Various actions were narrated which went to give the impression that the man was crazy at the" time. He had been drinking and on a regular spree, and concoUhd that the neighbors aiid his landlord were down on him, Last summer he received a hurt on the head.

The witness was examined at great length by the State's Attorney to endeavor to show that the accused was of sane mind. Mrs. McGowan, mother of deceased. Wasat Atkinson's house on the night of the 21st of April. Her sou, James, told her Atkinson was crazy.

Went there and Atkinson wanted to come out. Siie would not let him. He acted strangely gave him medicine which his wife brought in. His actions were such as usually accompany mania a potu. Tried to get him asleep, but could not do it.

Thouirht he had the mania. Dr. Hi rtinan. the family physician of Atkinson, testified to his drinking habits and his having the mania a potu. He prescribed for Atkinsonon the night of the "Mst April, for mania a potu.

He described mania a potu, the causes and the results. From the testimony given here, he would undoubtedly say the accused was acting under mania a potu. He was examined at some length in reference to mania from fevers, At the conclusion of his examination, the court took a recess from three to four o'clock. The court assembled at the time specified in the afternoon, when Tobias Airey, police officer, was called to the stand. Went with prisoner to jail.

From his manner and appearance, judged him to he affected wbh mania-a-pctu. Knew him for a long time, and he looked very wild. Thomas Dukehart. a deputy warden of the jail, saw- him the day after brought in found him naked trying to get up the chimney was very violent did not think him in his right mind had to tie him. Wm.

H. Councilman, formerwarden of the jail, saw him on the night he was brought to the jail. He was violent and irrational, ami he supposed Is.1 in laboring under mania-a-potu. Believed him to be a rational man recently, though for some time his a use. eis were not rational John K.

Hynson. a deputy warden of the jail. His bienee was much the same as the others. Relieved him insane; was called to remove him to another tootn by the inmates of the room in which he wns. who expressed apprehensions of danger a-oni Mm.

Dr. E. S. Thomas, physician at the jail, testified hat in-' iscaer was laboring vn-b-r mania a potu when night in. and he treated him for it.

Did not think nun of a sound mind. Francis Waltemeyer saw Atkinson some two or three weeks before the murder thought his excesses had altered him. having know him before. Tiie defence here rested the case on their part, and the State brought up rebutting evidence. The State called Kinsey Watts, who stated that be saw Atkinson on the -201 April, two days before the murder at o'clork.

Had a conversation with him about some work. His conversation was rational as any man's could, be at that time. "I would state for the benefit, of all those similarly afflicted, that my mother, aged 48 years, has been atilicted with the Piles for the last 15 years; during which tune she has tried various remedies, and applied to eminent Physicians with but little success thev affording but transitory relief. She becoming reduced to a mere skeleton, by constant affliction, I was induced to ry he above rcmady, when, I am happy to state, that a few applications produced a change so perceptibly for the better, that she continued tlie use of it for a few weeks, at the expiration of which tune a permanent cure was effected. I would most cordially recommend the above Pile medicine as a most valuable remedy for those atilicted in like manner, (signed 1 Wm. Bovvik, for Ann en Samfkl, No. S3 N.
