The funeral took place at 'J 30 o'clock Friday morning, leaving the family residence at that hour and proceeding to St. James Episcopal church and from thence to Rapides cemetery, Pineville. The deceased leaves three daughters: Mrs. Lucius D. Camnbell of Bunkie.

was born in Waynesboro, Anderson county. North Caro lina, Oct. 26, IK-JO, being a son of Col. James and Susan (Rush-insr) Rushing, (not related), the former of whom was a success ful and prosperous cotton planter and a representative man of his country. Both were descended from old and prominent families, who made names for themselves during the Revolutionary war.

The deceased graduated in medicine at the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia in 1853. He enlisted as a private in the Confederate army at the opening of the Civil war, but was soon appointed staff surgeon for brave Gen. Finley in the Army of Tennessee. Dr. Rushing then returned to Evergreen, resumed his practice and remained until 1880, when he came to Alexandria, La.

The subject of this sketch was married in at Evergreen. to Miss Flavilla J. Duvall, a native of Louisiana and a decend- ent of an honorable Maryland family. She died about 2 years ago. The Doctor has long been a Royal Arch Mason.

A noble man has passed away. His life was consecrated to the alleviation of suffering and his helping hand always extended to the poor and needy. School Entertainment. Improvement at Sour Lake Min eral Springs, Famous Texas Watering Place. F. P. Furlong, manager ot the New Sour Lake Springs Hotel Sanitarium and Bath Houses was in the city Satu rday in the interest of this resort. He is placing in all of the larger cities along the Southern Pacific Route, a large frame ot beautiful photographs of this Hotel, Bath House, Grounds and College, etc.

As he says, nothing is more con vincing than a photograph which shows it to be a delightful place, being located in a beautiful park of large stately oak and pine trees. These photos will be left in each city tor about 15 days. In years past Sour has had quite a number of pations from Lafayette, who will be pleased to note the change for the better in this favorite summer resort. Sour Lake now has both the Southern Pacific and Beaumont and Sour Lake Railroads. Until recently it was neces sary to travel nine miles by stage to reach these wonderful Springs, and vet everv summer found hundreds of visitors at this place, which has been known for years as the only known cure of the dreadful disease of eczema and all skin troubles.

The waters are tine for stomach and kidneys, while rheumatism readily yields to the mud baths given them. The waters are recommended by all of the prominent physicians of Texas who have been sending patients there for years. The sanitarium is in charge of Dr. H. L.
