The petition of the property tax payers ot the parish of Lafayette, ija. praying that a special election be ordered for the purpose of ascertainiug and determining whether ur not, it is the sense and desire of the property lax payers of the parish of Lafayette, that a special tax of two mills on every dollar of the assessed valuation of par ish property, be levied for the purpose of securing the location of the State Industrial Institute in the parish of Lafayette was received ttod the fol lowing ordiuance duly adopted in ref erence thereto:" AN ORDINANCE ordering a special election in accordance with Act No. 131 of acts of the Legislature ol this State for tbe year and Article No.

232 of the con etitution, whereat shall be sub milted to the property tax-payers of the parish of Lafayette, La. entitled to under the general election laws of said State, the question of levying a special tax, at the rate of two mills on the dol lar per annum, of the assessed property therein for a period of ten years, beginning with the first day of January, A. D. 1900, for the purpose ot securing the location of the State Institute, provided by Act No. 162 of the General Assembly, approved July 14, 1898vin the parish of Lafayette, in conformity with the petition of more than one-third of the propei ty tax-payers of said parish here-to annexed and made pari hereof, providing for the mode of holding said election making returns, etc.

Sec. 1. Be itordained by the Police Jury of Lafayette, in legal session convened, that a special election is hereby ordered and shall be held in said parish of Lafayette, on Tuesday September 26, A. D. 1899, at which election shall be submitted to the property tax-payers of said parish entitled to vote under the general election lavs of the State, the question levying a special tax ot two mills on the dollar of assessed valuation on all taxable property in said parish annual ly for a period of ten years, beginning with the first dav of Jan.
