Frisco hotel strike near end SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) Union leaders are urging maids, bellhops, cooks and bartenders to ratify a tentative contract that would end their nearly month-long strike against 36 of the city's major hotels. Some of the affected hotels were closed for a time after the start of the strike July 17, but all were open today with non-union help and reduced services. The tentative contract between the Hotel Employers Association and Local 2 of the Hotel, Restaurant and Bartenders Union was reached in Los Angeles Saturday after a 36-hour bargaining session.

Union officials presented members with details of the pact Sunday. The 6,000 striking workers vote on the contract Tuesday. The Visitors and Convention Bureau estimated the loss to the city in tourist and convention business at over $20 million. Among lost conventions was one for the American Chemical Society, which shifted the site to Nevada. Late Sunday the union released details of the new proposal, which raises wages for top employees by 13 percent immediately and 33.5 percent over three years.

Workers at smaller hotels and those on jobs which include tips received smaller hikes of 7.5 to 12 percent immediately and 23.5 to 30 percent over three years.
