Upper Boston Harbor, to Boaton Light, which ia on. of the moat difficult swimming course. In America, owing to thi cross-currants, change of tide during the race and the frequent shift of the wind to the East, with its attendant discomforts of cold and choppy seas. This year tha avent was won on' July 15 by Henry Mlron, II years old, of Ablngton, Maaa. He covered the distance, which la a little over 11 miles.

In I hours and 41 minutes. This does not break the record, which ia I hours and IS minutes, made by Sam Richards. There was an east wind all the way down the harbor and the tide turned against them before they reached the lighthouse. In addition Mlron waa forced to turn back to avoid being run down by the St John steamer, outward bound, which would not alter Its course. Throughout trie tedious grind Mlron used his long, graceful rythmic overarm stroke to excellent advantage, and his scissors kick waa very successful in propelling him through the surging seas with surprising rapidity.

Though but II years old Mlron has developed wonderfully as a swimmer and In general physique. He haa th strength and else of a man twice hie age. HI. first long swim was the Pilgrim A A. race to Boston Light In 1112.

He was only II years old at the time and was taken out of the water when he reached Spectacle Island. It was not until last season, however, that he blo.somed out Into a swimmer of the first rank. On August I he swam to the Oraves Light in I hours and 11 minutes, and negotiated the Charleston bridge-Boston Light swim in hours and 11 minutes, the second best time ever made. srscut, pisrATC to rns SNqDntsa. New York, July 8L Soim one has start-ad silly comparisons between golf and baseball. Tjr Cobb, say. a man who knows both golf and baseball, can hit a baseball 400 feet. Jerome Travers can drive a golf ball SCO yards, or 1.060 feet about two and a half tltnee aa far.

One might say, well, what of thatT But the fan, not content, proceeds theoretically, until he comas to the conclusion that Ty Cobb would have to be twice as large as he Is were he to obtain the driving power to send a baseball from a bat over as great an amount of territory as the peerless Jerry sends the gutta peroha sphere. Cobb, continues the theoriet, measure, a feet 11 Inches In height and weigh. 180 To equal the golf drive he would have to be 14 feet I Inchei tall and weigh 460 pounds. He'd wear a lTty cap Inatead of a a 20 shoe. Instead of an 8, and a B7H-lnch collar Instead of a 18.
