this Prenuptial Woman's World Friday, September 27, 1974 Statesville Record Landmark Page 9-A Wayside Club Given Program On Iredell's Past Wayside Homemakers Club met Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. A. E. Hendley in Elmwood. The hostess led an interesting devotion reminding members to slow down in their busy lives.

Roll call was answered by members whonamed "the prettiest birds." During a business session conducted by Mrs. Baxter Combs, president, programs for the coming year were discussed and a slate of officers approved as follows: Mrs. Richard Hartness, president; Mrs. Kenneth Rummage, vice president; Mrs. Robert Gregory, secretary; and Mrs.

William Phillips, treasurer. Announcement was made that Stradley Realty at Wayside has donated a room to be used as the Wayside Clubroom. A. E. Hendley gave an informative program on "Happenings In the Past in Iredell FRENCH BOUQUET The new Sonia rose complements the Dutchesse' complexion in this delicate French bouquet which was exhibited recently at the Academy of American Florists' design competition.

Flowers, Art Combined In Unique Show OMAHA, Neb. Masters of the art world, Mother Nature and the country's premium floral designers put it all together recently in a dazzling show of talent and beauty, ingenuity and creativity at the Joslyn Art Museum. Members of the American Academy of Florists sponsored the nationwide competition and transformed the handsome surroundings with living works of art designed to complement a wide variety of masterpieces. The museum's collection, ranging from Rembrandt to Jackson Pollack and interspersed with fine antique furniture, objects of art and sculpture, sprang to life as floral artisans created their living masterpieces using an imaginative array of materials including fruit, cornstalks, pebbles and driftwood. The displays, open to the public, illustrated the talents of top floral designers from across the nation.

The 531 members of the American Academy of Florists, according to chairman Charles Kofler, are selected on the basis of high professional and personal standards and this representative show of floral and artistic know-how was aweinspiring the galleries filled with flower fragrance, form and color vying in richness and detail with old and new masters of art. Top honors in the competition went to Michael Polychromes of Springfield, for: a contemporary arrangement of agapanthus flowers with cedar and bare willow branches adding contrast in a simple pottery bowl designed to complement a large painting entitled "Storm on the Matterhorn" by Bierstadt. The flowers and simple but dramatic up- Put Some Fun in Your Life DANCE Get Your Friends Together for Your Own Ballroom Dancing Course at Meg Revier Studio 315 E. Front St. Ph: 872-7428 or 873-2405 right form of the design were chosen to reflect the "lacey, cloudy effect" of the painting, according to Polychromes.

A sentimental favorite of many visitors to the galleries, in sharp contrast to the winning entry, was a delicate French bouquet of roses, baby's breath, dahlias and delphinium. The design featured a new rose variety, Sonia, whose color baffles description, currently being introduced by florists all over the country. The Sonia resembles most the blush of the Dutchesse de Lambesc whose portrait gazed over it with a serene smile. Other designs ranged from a lavish table centerpiece of vegetables and garden flowers complete with a whimsical fake fly on an antique Flemish table, to a jewel-like swag of dried magnolia leaves and straw flowers decorating the base of an Italian Madonna statue. The mid-west, depicted in Grant Wood's painting of Stone City, Iowa, was imaginatively captured in a rich design of corn stalks and garden and dried flowers that exactly reproduced the American artist's oil palette.

Observers agreed it was "a masterful blend of life and art, a treat for eye and soul." If partially thawed food is firm, it is safe to refreeze it; but use this food as soon as possible.
