Punxsutawney Mrs Donald Armstrong and CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (AP) Alumnae pulled Wilson College from the brink of extinction earlier this spring and they celebrated their victory this weekend while receiving anniversary greetings from President Carter. About 750 alumna from as far back as the class of 1913 and as far away as Arizona were on campus for a weekend of socializing and meetings designed to get the 110-year-old college for women back on its feet. Wilson trustees announced in February that the liberal arts school. suffering from dwindling enrollment, would close June 30.

But members of the Wilson College Alumnae Association formed the Save Wilson Committee and late last month won a court order that will keep the school open. you and your school have struggled for sur. vival and have won. (AP) For the man who became a national symbol of machismo as the cowboy star of Marlboro's cigarette commercials. Wayne Dunafon is pretty unassuming. He doesn't even smoke all that much. But the 59-year-old northeast Kansas rancher still has the trim. muscular physique that made him a champion steer wrestler during his rodeo days and drew the interest of tele vision viewers during his 14 years riding around Marlboro Country Dunafon.

who was in Chevenne. at the time. was chosen for the commercials from among a group of rodeo cowboys after the cigarette company had some problems with authenticity. There was one commercial where a guy was wearing his spurs upside down. and they got about 80 letters from ranchers.

So they decided to find some real cowboys. and they came to ('heyenne to screen us at a rodeo there." he says. The job came pretty naturally to Dunafon. but some days he worked harder for the photographers than he would on a day at tus own ranch. They wanted sunrise shots and they wanted sunset says the rancher.
