The students who represented the Ronald McDonald House presented ideas geared towards the goal of increasing the number of families who stayed there while staying within the nonprofit organization's limited advertising budget. "What impressed me was that many of their ideas were complimentary to many of our existing strategies," Knepper said.

"They developed a fact sheet that expanded on the information found in our existing brochures and that we could use as an insert." The students presented the co-owners of Maya Tattoos, Body Piercing and Body Branding with examples of radio spots, billboards, posters, and flyers, along with designs for T-shirts and Frisbees. "Their ideas were better than those from some of the people we've paid to do the same thing," Terhune said. College advertising class recently presented marketing strategies to several Siouxland businesses. The presentations followed a semester of research and planning by the 37 students in the class. The students were grouped into nine teams to develop marketing campaigns that were presented to the organizations earlier this month.

The businesses and their representatives included: Beyond the Bell, Charles Sanders, site manager; Glass Apple Gift Shop, Janet Adams, manager; Maya Tattoos, Body Piercing and Body Branding, Eva Nieto-Terhune and Jason Terhune, co-owners; Morningside College, Dr. Doug Livermore, professor of business administration and economics, Cathee Phillips, director of public relations, and Tom Rice, vice president for institutional advancement; New Perspectives Jolie Corder, executive director, and Bev King, board president; Reynolds Portrait Studio and RVP, Christi Reynolds and Bud Reynolds, co-owners; Rick Linda Massey, owner; Ronald McDonald House, Barb Knepper, executive director; United Way of Siouxland, Charese Yanney, overlooked aspects of American theatre history. Poole has written and lectured extensively on theatre of the Midwest. He is co-author of "Opera Houses of Iowa" (Iowa State University Press) and was named a Fulbright Scholar in 1998. of Sioux City, announced that Michael R. Tracy has become certified by the Iowa Department of Public Health as a Certified Radon Measurement Specialist. Tracy, president of the company, began TriState Certified this year. The Iowa Department of Public Health requires three years of post-secondary education in architecture, natural science, engineering or three years of work experience such as, home inspection service, the design and installation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, or the design or construction of buildings. The department also requires the attendance of a state approved training coarse and that each specialist pass the National Environmental Health Association's exam for radon measurement.

Each radon measurement specialist is required to receive six hours continuing education hours on an annual basis. Vriezelaar is a partner in the law firm of Vriezelaar, Tigges, Edgington, Rossi, Bottaro Boden LLP in Sioux City. He is a member of the Council of the Tax Section of the Iowa State Bar Association and a member of the Tax and Litigation Sections of the American Bar Association. He is a frequent speaker at legal seminars. CPA workshop speaker Lon Rochester of The Lockie Consulting Group, LLC was recently a featured speaker at a one-day workshop held in Minneapolis at the Society of Minnesota CPAs.

Rochester, in conjunction with RAN ONE, an international consulting firm specializing in CPA practice expansion, delivered a program entitled "Winning Work Using Business Developer." Business Developer is powerful software tool developed by RAN ONE that allows CP As with limited consulting experience the opportunity to help their clients in a number of ways. The workshop was a hands-on learning experience in how to use this software tool to execute successful diagnostic sessions for clients in order to provide much needed answers for their clients' business problems. Monson also is chair of the Iowa Lewis Clark Bicentennial Commission. The Operating Committee will set policy and oversee operation of the interpretive center. The $4 million Missouri Riverfront attraction opened to the public on Sept. 21.

The center was funded entirely by Missouri River Historical Development, Inc. (MRHD), the non-profit organization that holds the license for riverboat gaming in Woodbury County. Tax school presentation Local attorney Kent Vriezelaar recently spoke about the tax changes made by the federal Job Creation and Worker Assistance Act, which was effective March 9, 2002. His presentation was made at the December Tax School seminar presented Dec. 4-6 by the Iowa State Bar Association in Des Moines.

Tax professionals attending this two-day course discussed the most recent changes in the IRS tax code as regards tax return preparation in order to ensure accuracy and reliability of all tax work done for the firm's clients. Additional information was disseminated regarding the 2002 retirement plan payout, job creation and the Worker Assistance Act of 2002. Noncompliance tax consequences and management strategies associated with various business entities including agriculture were the final topics of discussion.

Theatre paper presentation Richard Poole, professor of theatre and speech communication at Briar Cliff University, presented a scholarly paper at the recent American Society of Theatre ResearchTheatre Library Association international conference in Philadelphia. As the name indicates, participation in the OSHA audit is voluntary, lams invited representatives to complete an extensive, week-long audit. The audit included a detailed inspection and review of Heartland's safety policies and employee involvement in safety procedures. The audit also focused on safety training and accident injury rates.
