THE WORLD: SUNDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1893. OLDEST HAN IN THE HOUSE. Fcraker'c Pather-in-Law Zlsctod to Congress VTbfn 76 Tears Old. Hezeklah Bundy Is the oldest Con' pressman In the House, having passec his seventy-sixth year. He comes into Ihla session of Congress at the begin Iftlng of the regular session, having been elected in November to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Gen.

Enochs, of Ohio. Consrressman Bundy is not a stranger In his place ot honor. Back in 1870 he waa called the Iron King of Ohio, and went to Congress from nearly the same district he now represents. At 'that time he was (supposed to be a mill lonalre, because of his extensive holdings In. furnaces and Iron lands throuRhout the Jackson mining region.

lawyer, too. but practised when he was his own client. He wa.s a little, save KEZEKIAB S. BUKDT. After serving 1 two terms he was defeated in 1S74 by John L.

Vance, of Gal- Hpolls. The old man was badly broken up by this defeat, because it was a defeat of principles which he and the Republican party held dear. He had stood up for the rights of colored men and had supported, from conviction, the Civil Rights bill. His course caused his defeat, and he always yearned for vindication before he died. Several times he has endeavored to get one more ttirm in Congress, and the death of Gen.

Enochs gave the veteran his long-sought and prayed-for years late, but, nevertheless, In time to round out his career. Hs was a character and a forceful man when in Congress before, and he Is now, for his years, wonderfully vigorous. He is a "natural born orator." Besides, he is known throughout all Southern Ohio as the king of story-tellers, and he will probably soon, rival John AUen as the wit and yarn spinner of the present cession. Among other things, old Hezeklp-h is proud of the fact that his son-in-law Is ex-Gov. .7.

Foraker, of Ohio, who, back 1S69, married Julia Bundy at the old house in Wellston. Foraker was then a poor young lawyer but intensely ambitious. Old Father Bundy said to him after the wedding: "Look here, Ben, don't PO to to begin practice. You'll Btavve to death in that great city. Stay right here, look after my business, stick to your work in a quiet way.

Thero Is a Jiving in it, anyhow, and after a while peraaps we can elect you a Common Pleas Judge." this flattering Foraker, and in a little over ten years afterwards he was the nominee for Governor of Ohio, and held the office four years, having been, four times the candidate of his party. eloquence is like that of In- gersoU's, but he is even more witty, and perhaps more homely in his expressions. His great wealth melted away after the panic of 1S73, and he was glad the other aav when he was sworn in to find that $2,000 salary was awaiting him. REU03 OF THE OLD SOUTH. Decay and Desolation of Plantations That "Were Once Splendid Estates.

(Florida Correspondence of Indinnapolls Journal. Monticcllo was an aristocratic place in the olden time In the days before the Now it Is a decayed town with but little of its former greatness to be seen. There are many beautiful yards here, but the houses have the mark of decay upon them. They all need painting and fixing up. There Is a good deal of cotton marketed here, but the price of the grreat staple Is so low that there Is Ht- lle, if any, profit In raising It.

It is produced entirely by the labor of the ne- white men having mostly left the country and scattered among the towns. The grand plantation Is no more, r.tid, in its place are to be found the cabin and cotton patches of the negroes. The other day I went some four miles Into the country to see what was an ideal Southern plantation before the war. It ntained 1,300 acres, mostly grown up briar and bushes. The mansion house gone to decay and is about ready to pple over or fall to the ground.

It is habited by an old negro who civilly an- pwered such questions E.S I asked him. "Ichabod" is written everywhere. Forty years ago this house was the home ct one of the most prominent men In Florida, her territorial representative In the National Congress. It was the seat of much hospitality and good cheer. Now its inhabitants are bats and a lonely old negro.

The land then was worth froni 560 to $70 an acre; now it can be for $5 and possibly less. Truly has a. change come over this land of the South. Kvrrv Mmiilfl Read IT nny vounj? jr.an. old or mldflle-iippd man nervous debility, premature decay, Jack of vilulity uud development, varlcocelt.
