SECTION TWO PAGE ONE Mason County Has Ten Names Changed by Supervisors of Beautiful Inland Lakes, Streams Complete Description of County's 52 Lakes Is Compiled; Known Far and Wide To some of Mason county's regular visitors, a number of the county's 52 lake will strike a confusing note this summer for ten of these lakes will be known by new names this year. Action was taken by Mason county' supervisors at their October, 1941, session, to make the name-changes. This is in connection with a state-wide movement to cut down 'duplications of names.

Names changed are: Little Bass lake has become Cartier lake; Blue lake has been changed to Chancellor lake, Devil's lake is now Lake Eden, Crystal lake has been changed I to Hackert lake, Lost lake, in 'iEden has become Pleimess lake, Twin lakes are, renamed Romeo and Juliet lakes, Cedar lake has become Picnic lake, Long lake, in Eden township, will be known as Clancy lake, Long lake, in Grant township, has been changed to Tainer lake and Mud lake, Amber and Victory townships, has been changed to Vogel lake. The complete list of lakes, in which can befound some of Michigan's best fishing, fol- lows; lake is situated in Custer township near US-10 north of Custer. It covers 30 acres and has a road just 30 rods frbm its shore. Billheads 'are to be caught in its waters. lake is found in Sherman township north of Fountain.

It covers 20 acres and a road is found three rods away. Perch and pike frequent its waters tmt there is no resort development here. Augustine Lake Augustine which covers 10 acres is situated in Logan township near Branch. There is a road one- half mile away but no resort development. Bullheads are caught here.

lake in Custer township near US-10 near Custer has a road 40 rods away. It is not much frequented, has a sand and mud beach. lake is situated in Eden township near US-10, near Scottville. It covers 90 acres and a road touches its shores. The lake is not much frequented but contains large and small-mouth bass, bluegills, perch, wall-eyed pike and pike.

Ba SS lake is located in Summit township near US-31, near Pentwater. It covers 400 acres and a road touches the lake. There is an extensive resort development, several boat liveries, good swimming, part sand and part marshy beach, sparse woods and west side is hilly and the east side flat. The lake is much frequented and contains large and small- mouth bass, bluegills, perch, pike. The lake empties into Lake Michigan and gradually increases in depth toward the west side and at most hardly exceeds 25 feet.

The west shore in the dune area is the most popular. lake is situated in Meade township near US-311 north of Fountain. It covers 30 acres and contains bluegills. Brovont Brovant lake in Eden township is near Scottville. It covers 30 acres and a road touches the lake.

The lake is not much frequented contains bluegills and perch. lake is situated in Sheridan township near US-31 and Fountain. A road runs within one mile of it but there is no resort development The lake is not much frequented. Cartier (formerly Little Bass) lake in Sheridan town- ship near US-10 and US-31 is also located near Fountain. The lake covers 60 acres and there is a road just 80 rods away.

There is a slight resort development, boat livery, good swimming, sand and marsh beaches, sparse woods, hilly land and the lake is much frequented. It contains large and small-mouth bass, bluegills, perch and pike. laXe is located in Branch township near US-10, south of Walhalla. It covers 30 acres and a road touches the lake. There is no resort development and the lake is not much frequented though in it are found large and small-mouth bluegills and perch.

Chancellor (formerly Chancellor lake in Sheridan township northeast of Fountaua covers 150 acres. A road touches the lake but there is no resort development and no boat livery. The swimming is good and the beach is made of A dense woods surrounds the lake which is not much frequented. In the lake are large mouth bass, small mouth bass and bluegills. Clancy (formerly Clancy lake in Eden township near US-31 and US-10 and Custer covers 40 acres.

A road touches the lake but there is no resort development or boat livery.
