The board meets at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 and a general meeting at 8. Pumpkin Fest meeting set BESSEMER The Bessemer Pumpkin Fest committee will, meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

Picnic wrap-up meeting set All veteran organization commanders and auxiliary presidents, along with intersted veterans, are welcome to attend the wrap-up meeting of the annual All Veterans and Their Families Picnic meeting on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Ironwood American Legion Post 5. The picnic is set for Saturday (VJ Day) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II. The picnic will be held at Sunday Lake Park in Wakefield, along with the Wakefield Fireworks Committee and the annual Labor Day picnic. IAHS meeting slated The Ironwood Area Historical Society will hold its general membership meeting at the Masonic Temple meeting rooms Thursday at 7 p.m.

The program will be presented by Charles E. Best. He will present the history of the Masonic Temple and the past use, along with a tour of facility. The meeting is open to the public and the IAHS would like to welcome anyone who is interested in seeing the facility to join them. Veteran's counselor sets hours BESSEMER Gary J.

Gertz, Gogebic County Veteran's Counselor, will be at the following locations Thursday to assist veterans or their dependents: Bessemer City Hall, 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wakefield City Hall, 1 to 2:30 p.m. RVSP luncheon, bazaar set ASHLAND, Wis. The Little Blue Bus will leave the Hurley Senior Center at 9 a.m. to attend the RSVP luncheon and bazaar in Ashland on Saturday, Sept.

9. There will be a choice of two luncheon plates: A barbecue plate for $3 and a hot dog plate for $2. The plates include beans, chips and dessert. Dessert and coffee will be available for $1.25. The bus will return to the center at 3 p.m.

The transportation cost is $2. "Hop aboard the join the fun," a spokesperson said. Advisory council to meet Chairperson Linda Nelson has called a meeting of the Gogebic County Horse Advisory Council for Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Gogebic County MSU Extension Office, located at 104 S. Lowell in Ironwood (Gogebic Senior Center).

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the 1995 Gogebic County Fair problems and concerns. The meeting is open to all Gogebic County residents who show horses at the fair. Several concerns were addressed during the fair and the advisory council and the fair board want to start now to work out any problems well in advance of next year's fair. All Gogebic County horse exhibitors are encouraged to attend. Board changes meeting date BERGLAND Beginning in September, the Bergland Township Zoning and Planning Board will hold its meetings the third Tuesday of each month.

Luncheon, fashion show The Winchester Women's Civic Club will hold its fourth annual luncheon and fashion show on Saturday, beginning at noon, at the Winchester Municipal Building on Highway W.

The cost is $7.50 and tickets are available at Fairbanks Store and Library. Bake sale The Range Strikers Soccer Organization will hold a bake-craft sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at mart and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Community fair The 69th annual Glidden (Wis.) Community Fair will be held Saturday through Monday. On Saturday there will be softball, a mud run, "Triple DJ services, games, rides, and food booths all weekend. There Will be arts and crafts, the Logging Congress, ATV pull, Dixieland band and fireworks on Sunday. On Monday there will be a car show, horse pull and drawings. VJ Day picnic An All-Veterans VJ Day Picnic will be held Saturday, beginning at noon, at Sunday Lake in Wakefield.

There will be food and drink available at a minimal cost, a bonfire, swimming, games for kids and adults. Families are welcome. Grandparents are Joe and Mary Braspenick of Ironwood, Jack Fahrner of Duluth, Minn, and Mae Fahrner of Phoenix, Ariz. Kendra joins a brother, Brandon, and a sister, Amanda, at home. Three local cheerleading squads attended a cheer camp at the Universal Cheerleading Association summer camp.

'What's New in Diabetic Care' to be discussed at RDA meeting Michael S. Grossman, MD, noted lecturer to physicians and nurses throughout the Upper Peninsula, will be the keynote speaker at an informal meeting of the Range Diabetes Association on Tuesday, Sept.

12 at 7 p.m. in the conference room at Grand View Hospital. Dr. Grossman hails from Negaunee, where he has his family practice. He is a broad member of the U.P.

Diabetes Outreach Network, Marquette; and of several other organizations. He is past Chief of Staff at the F.A. Bell Memorial Hsopital in Ishpeming, past president of the Marquette County Hospice, and a chairperson of the Marquette County Emergency Medical Advisory Board. His presentation, which is designed to educate diabetics and their families about the complex nature of diabetes and secondary ailments, now includes a comprehensive explanation of how recent medical breakthroughs effect personalized monitoring of Type II Diabetes. As Dr.

Grossman's specialization in diabetic care grows out of personal experienced with his disease, his presentation embraces a perspective of inspiration and courage. The RDA extends it gratitude and best wishes to those who have worked, throughout the year, to maintain its mission of providing sound expertise, education and support to diabetics and their families. Blood glucose testing is held from 6 to 7 p.m. The Range Diabetes Association serves approximately 300 people per year. All meetings and activities are open to the public and held at no charge.

Jauneen, special thanks to you for your comforting hug. PHYLLIS SWANSON With the Colors TROUT CREEK Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Timothy Perttula, son of Wilbert L. and Lois J. Perttula of Trout Creek, recently returned from a six- month overseas deployment to the North Atlantic Ocean and Baltic and Mediterranean seas aboard the mine countermeasures shipo USS Defender.

Perttula is one of 84 sailors aboard the ship who completed the voyage. Working aboard one of the Navy's newest high-tech mine sweepers, Perttula joined sailors aboard three other U.S. Navy mine countermeasures ships for a series of exercises involving NATO forces. The 1980 graduate of Ewen- Trout Creek high School joined the Navy in February of 1985. THANK YOU I want to thank everyone that helped in any way and gave Eddie and I support during his illness.

It meant more than words could every express. Also, a Very Special Thank You to Dr. Armstrong for all of his caring efforts to try to save Eddie's life and his concern for me. My very difficult days were made a little easier with the excellent hellp from Caring Home Health, Hospice, Grand View Hospital, Cancer Society and my sister Elsie Nevala.
