Fuller passed 15 yards to Jerry Butler and, two plays later, 16 yards to Dwight Clark to move' the ball to the Georgia seven. After a face mask penalty moved the ball to the four, Warren Ratchford gained a yard and Lester Brown followed with a three-yard plunge to score with 8:36 gone in the period. Jimmy Russell added the decisive extra point. Until its last second gasp, Georgia twice drove inside the Clemson 20 in the second half.

But the Bulldogs were stopped once on a fourth-and-one play at the 12 when Pyburn was tackled for no gain, and again when Pyburn twiced slipped down on the wet turf while trying to run inside the 10. After Pyburn's second slip resulted in a six-yard loss, Georgia's Rex Robinson missed a 39-yard field goal try. (UPI) Clemson, led by the passing of junior quarterback Steve Fuller, turned a fumbled punt into a touchdown on a soggy day yesterday to upset 19th-ranked Georgia 7-6 when a last-second try for a two-point conversion by the Bulldogs failed. Georgia, plagued by fumbles and penalties, came close to pulling the game out when freshman quarterback Jeff Pyburn passed eight yards into the end zone to tight end Ulysses Norris after hitting Jesse Murray with a 51-yard pass with just six seconds left. With the home crowd of 55,100 roaring, Pyburn took too much time trying to launch a two-point conversion play and Georgia was penalized five yards.

Pyburn's desperation conversion pass fell incomplete. The Tigers, who evened their record at 1-1, took advantage of a Georgia fumble in the third period for their score. Bulldog safety Billy Woods dropped David Sims' punt and Rick Wyatt recovered on the Georgia 49. Running back Tracy Perry, a 220- Southerners AUBURN, Ala. The senior quarterback came off the bench and flipped a deflected 10-yard touchdown pass to fullback James Storey to bring Ole Miss from behind and cap a 80-yard drive in the final minutes.

"I threw it behind him and James got a big hand on it," a sweaty and smiling Ellis said in the locker room. "It was a lousy throw but a great catch." Rebel Coach Ken Cooper liked the way his team rebounded after falling behind 13-10 midway through the fourth quarter. "We just kept coming back," he said. "We always seemed somehow to come up with the big play, not always by a storied player." Ellis, relegated to the third team after a mediocre season last year, came off the bench with four minutes left and drove the Rebels 80 yards in five plays, including three passes for 75 yards. The key was a 47-yard pass from end L.Q.

One minute later, Baker fumbled a snap and Colbert recovered at the Miami 21, but the Hurricane defense held at the three and Tech had to settle for Mike Dassel's 20-yard field goal with 7:30 left in the quarter. The victory squared Tech's record at 1-1 and Miami dropped to 0-2, having lost a 10-0 decision to Ohio State last week.

"I said after that game we weren't a good team and I haven't changed my assessment yet," he said, "but we have the potential to be a good team.
