J. Bulgin prtached in the Free Baptist church last Sabbath morning, and Prof. Coultea conducted service in the Christian church at the same hour. The union meetings are well attended and the Holy accompanies the word as spoken by our brother. Several persons have professed faith in Christ as their Saviour.

WATCH YOUR OWN CONDUCT. "When I was a boy," said an old man, "1 was often very idle and used to play during lessons with other boys as idle as myself. One day we were fairly caught by the master. he said, 'you must not be idle; you must attend closer to your books. The first one of you who sees another idle will please come and tell I thought to myself, 'there oe Simmons that i don't like: I'll watch him and if I see him look oft bis book, I'll tell the "It was not long until I saw Joe look off his book and I went up at once to tell the he.

'How did you know he was 'I saw I. 'You did? And were your eyes on your book when you saw 'I was caught and the other boys laughed and I never watched for idle boys again." If we watch over our own conduct and try to keep it right and always do our own duty, we will not have time to watch for faults or idleness in others. This will keep us out of mischief and make us helpful to Young Folks. There is a good lesson here for every Christian. church members put in so much time watching other people that they unconsciously lose the real spirit of Christian love and service, and then they are in a better condition to see and magnify the faults of others.

THE RIGHT KKY. You have lost the key of the chest and after trying all the keys you possess you are obliged to send out for a smith. The tradesman comes with a huge bunch of keys of all sorts and sizes. To you they appear to be a singular collection of rusty Instruments. He looks at the lock and then tries one key and then another.

He has not touched it yet; and your treasures are still out of your reach. Look, he has found the likely key; it almost touches the not quite. He is evidently on the right track now. At last the chest is opened, for the right key has been found. This is a correct representation many a perplexity.

You cannot get at tho difficulty so as to deal with it aright find your way to a happy result. You pray, b'ut have not the liberty in the prayer which you desire. A definite promise is what you want. You try one and another of tho inspired words, but they dd not fit. You try again and in due season a promise presents irself which seems to have been made forthe occasion; it fits as exactly as a well made key fits the wards of the lock for which-it was originally prepared.

Having found the identical word of the living God, you hasten to plead it at the throne of grace, saying: my Lord, thou bast promised this good thing unto thy servant; be pleased to grant it!" The matter is ended; sorrow is turned to joy; prayer is H. Spurgeon. THE SCHOOL OF PRAYER. Come, my brothers! Shall we not go to the blessed Master and ask him to enroll our names, too, anew in that school which he always keeps open for those who long continue their stud lea in the divine art of prayer and intercession? Yes, let us this very day to the Master, as they did of old, ''Ixyd teach us to pray." As wo meditate, we shall find each word of the petition we bring to be full of meaning. "Lord, teach us to pray." Yea, to pray.

This is whaj, we need to be taught. Though, In its beginnings, prayer is so simple that the feeblest child can pray, yet it is, at the same time, the highest and holiest work to which man can rise. It is fellowship with the Unseen and Most Holy One. The powers of the eternal world have been placed at its disposal. It is the very essence of true religion, the channel of all blessings, the secret of power mid life.

Not only for selves, but for others, for the church, for the world, it is to prayer that God has given the right to lake hold of him and his strength. It if on prayer that the promises watt for their fulfillment, the kingdom for cooling, the glory of God for its full revelation. And for this blessed work how slothful and unfit we are. It is only the Spirit of God oao us to do it; aright. How speedily we are deceived into a resting to the form, while the power is wanting.

Shall we not enter it with the petition, Lord? It is just this we need to be taught. teach us to Rev. Andrew Murray. COUNSEL FOR QIRL8. An association of young women in a western city wrote through a committee of most effective tort of a their favorite authors, asking advice which would be profitable.

The-Springfield Republican published the answers, and among them is a reply from Dr. Holmes, penned a few days before his death, and from which we cull these wise words: "You will remember, doubtless, that Lockhart tells us In his 'LIU of Sir Walter that when Sir Walter lay upon his dying bed he said to Lockhart, 'My dear, be virtuous, be religions, be good. else will give you any comfort warn you come to lie "I know of no better words of ad vice that I can give you and other girl readers of my writings, than those of the author of 'Waverly, which I have just quoted. "Be clever, if you will and can; but, first of all, be good. think I cannot do better than to urge upon you and all my other young women.readers the importance of sincerity and earnestness of purpose.

Let it be your aim in every act of life to be, rather than to seem. "Avoid all hypocrisies and shams of every kind. Be wholly sincere in every word you speak and everything you do. "Remember that Intense earnestness and earnest, conscientious labor are the keys to success in every, undertaking. Be in earnest, then.

Work hard. Having formed a purpose let nothing tempt you from its accomplishment. "If you have high and lofty aims, no matter how hard a struggle you may have to make before they may be realized, press on, fight on, till you have attained them. "What if you have to sacrifice the thousand and one pleasures of life? Let them go without a thought, Time enough for them when sincerity and earnestness have mode you more than conquerors, have brought you, the triumphant winner of a good fight, to a commanding elevation, whence you can look down in peace and contentment upon the rugged path up which you have strugglee. "If you and all my other young women readers will consciously follow this advice and be true to yourselves and to God; you will do all that Is possible to attain the happiness that is sincerely wished you by, very truly yours, "OLIVER WKNDKLL NO.29 Notice of Incorporation.
