MADISON, Jan. i-rames of Soldiers Grove, who has been lieutenant governor of Wisconsin during the last three years, waa at noon yesterday Inaugurated as governor to serve out the balance of the unexpired term of IU M. Mr. La Follette then took Mr. Davidson by the arm and escorted hiui to a position in front of the chief justice, who arose from his seat as the two approached.

Addressing Mr. Davidson the chief justice asked: "You do solemnly swear that you will support the constitution of the United States and the constitution of the state of Wisconsin, and faithfully to discharge the duties of the office of the governor of Wisconsin to the best of your ablUty, so help you God "I do," responded Mr. Davidson in clear, firm voice. BERNHARDT'S TENTING TOUR, Thwarted by a soulless syndicatein her purpose to make a tour of the theaters of Texas and other sections of the southwest, Mme. Bernhardt has planned a novel itinerary of her own. The syndicate may control the Texas theaters, but there are large sections of adjacent prairie land which it does not own.

Mme. Bernhardt, therefore, has decided to go west anyhow and give her exhibitions of art in a tent- Her manager has been instructed to negotiate with a famous American circus for the necessary poles and canvas, circus benches, lighting apparatus and sawdust. Thus equipped and with a circus train to carry the outfit, Texas will be stormed and taken captive in the name of art. It remains to be seen, of course, how that state will take to the new departure. Texas ia reasonably familiar with the circus, knowing it far better than it knows Sardou or Duinas.

When tho populace at Waco or Waxahachie or Houston sees the circus poles going up and hears the mellow voice of the barker, bidding all within hearing to step up and get tickets, it will expect much. Su Hated with performance ou the high wire and rape ate, aurfuited with wild west shows, it anticipation will lie key-ey up for something sensational. However, the public will expect Sarah to prove equal to the emergeucy. Whether she, elects to change the programme and give an iinportan circus of her owu invention or to raise that sublime voice in the cry of "Hey Rube I and drive the unappreciative from her presence, she will bold her own. Texas may win in the end, but it will know that it ha been in a mlx-up. The news from that section of the country when Sarah and her tent arrive promises to be of surpassing interest. Cohen struts around in a grand iraK form at the railroad station, and in a.

Cohen looks at her and laughs. She thinks he misunderstands, and asks him again. Cohen simply howls with "laughter this time.

Lady becomes indignant, and after giving him a severe tongue lashing demands that ha inform her "when the last train leaves for Chicago."
