Obituaries Mrs. Ralph Ortez WANATAH Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Wiesjahn Funeral Home for Mrs. Ralph (Marie) Ortez, 83, formerly of Michigan City, who died Tuesday. The Rev.

William Bertsch will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening and until time of services. Born March 26, 1889 in Wanatah she was a daughter of August and Elizabeth Knitter. On May 29, 1949 at Michigan City she was married to Ralph Ortez, who preceded her in death in 1967.

Mrs. Ortez was a member of Salem United Church of Christ. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews including Mrs. Sylvia Klemme, Chicago, with whom Mrs. Ortez made her home until entering the nursing home.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters. Roy D. Barth PORTAGE Roy D. Barth, 78; of 6035 Canden, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital, Gary. He was a local resident for two months, coming from Gary, and was a retired U.S.

Steel employe and worked in the Sheet and Tin Mill. He was a member of Gary American Legion Post 17 and Knights of Pythias. Also, he was a veteran of World War I. Surviving are his widow, Mamie; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Donald (Elaine) Saxon of Pittsburgh; three stepsons, Vincent Nelson of Portage, Fred Widener of Merrillville, Buford Widener of Santa Rosa, 12 grandchildren and 16 great- Hospital Notes BIRTHS Dec.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-10 p.m. Thursday. Ellis C. McCasland PORTAGE Ellis C. McCasland, 67, of 2794 Elmwood, died Monday at Walter Clinic, Michigan City.

A Portage resident for 33 years, he was a retired supervisor for the Railroad and was a member of the Liberty Bible Church. He is survived by his widow, Sadie; a daughter, Mrs. Duane (Tanya) Luce of Portage; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Wilbur Hodge of Gary, and Mrs. Ruby Drake of Hobart.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Olson and Frum Portage Chapel with the Rev. Hartley Freeman officiating. Burial will be in McCool Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 10 p.m.

today and from 2-10 p.m. Thursday. Anthony Wozniak CHESTERTON Anthony Leo Wozniak, 66, of 225 S. 10th died today at Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso. Born June 7, 1906 in Chicago, a son of Casmier and Frances (Kubiak) Wozniak.

He married Helen Michalski, who survives. He was a retired employe of U.S. Steel Plate Mill and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Michigan City Moose Lodge. Surviving besides his widow are two sons, Donald of Chesterton, and Robert of Hobart; two daughters, Mrs.

Rosemarie Pavelka of Miller, and Mrs. Joanne Lowery, Chesterton; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Holewinski of Paulski, Mrs. Cecelia Mallak of Valenda, and Sister Mary Joanne, Felician Convent, Centralia, and 16 grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m, Saturday at St.

Patrick's Church with the Rev. Stephen Vrabely officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m.

On Nov. 17, 1911 she was married to John Groff who survives. A lifelong resident of Porter, she was a member of St. Paul's Church and the Women's Guild. Surviving besides her husband are a son, Burnett Groff, Porter; a brother, George Johnson, Michigan' City; a sister, Mamie Craig, St.

Petersburg, and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Corinne Ann Sherrick. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Carl Edmonds Funeral Home, Chesterton, with the Rev.

Donald R. Garue officiating. Burial will be in Chesterton Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday.

Francis Throop Rites Services were held today at 1 p.m. at Wetmore Funeral Home for Francis C. Throop, 74, formerly of Valparaiso, who died Sunday. Among survivors are three step-sons, Walter Hudgins, Valparaiso, George Hudgins, Silver Springs, and John W. Hudgins, Sycamore, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Marian Young, Silver Springs, and Mrs.
