Valpo men retire from NIPSCO wst LAFAYETTE AP) A Shelby County farmer has been elected 1981 president of the Indiana Farm Management Association. Phil Boring of New Palestine, was tapped for the top spot at the association's annual meeting in conjunction with Farm Science Days at Purdue University. Boring is a 1961 Purdue graduate. He produces grain, livestock and tomatoes on his 1,600 acre farm in Shelby County. - Also elected as officers of the association were: David Davis, Rt. 2, Poseyville, vicepres, ident; David Perlitz, Purdue University agricultural extension specialist, secretary-treasurer; Larry Curless, rural Wabash, new director. . ' , New stop for Amtrak RENSSELAER -Amtrak will add a new stop to the schedule of its popular Indianapolis-Chicago run, the "Hoosier State," Rep. Floyd Fithian, D-Ind. announced Friday. The train, which runs once a day in each direction between Indianapolis and Chicago, will be stopping in Rensselaer, Fithian said. The train will stop at the Jasper County community beginning April 26. .Layoffs announced ANDERSON (AP) General Motor's Guide Division fur-loughed an additional 35 workers at the end of their shifts Friday. Company officials said the additional layoffs come because of a slump in new car and truck sales. Some 660 employees now are on indefinite layoff at the plant. Simcox said Friday. "With. the other leading economic indicators mixed for the coming year, this sign of heightened business activity is welcome," Simcox said.
