In a stylish apartment on East rifty-flfth street Hughes, the Secret Service men aay, la Albion Godfrey, one of the cleverest counterfeiters rounded up in years. Secret Service Agent Dick and a Lsquad of deputies raided the flat.

The place la ons of several ttiat have been under surveillance for some time in a campaign to break up what la believed to be a national counterfeiting society with head-quartrera In Cleveland. Twenty-six half-dollars and 'dollar plas ter molds were unearthed In the Hughes apartments. When the offlrera made a sud den entry Hughea dashed for the rear statra. Covered by the revolvers of the officers hs threw up his hands and Mrs. Hughes.

In ths arrest of the men the police believe they have a gang which has stolen many thousands of dollars' worth of goods from freight cars dur ing ths past few months. Then, while one of their number remained on guard over the brakeman, the others returned to their work.

After they had removed a quantity of valuable goods from the car the thieves carefully sealed the door with a counter-felt seal. it When the door had been sealed four detectives sprang down frbm the-car tops. where they' had been hiding. In a des perate hand-to-hand fight which followed the detectives were finally victors, snd the three men were locked up. The men gave their names as John T.

Hughea, Alfred Rogers and Peter Brady. In a boathouse where Hughes had lived the detectives found goods valued at more than $1,000.
