Vidette-Messenger, AP WASHINGTON (AP) Labor unions and Republican party committees are making a flurry of last-minute campaign donations of $5,000 and more, according to reports pouring into government offices. Weekend analyses of the most recent batch of comprehensive reports showed that the AFL-CIO spent $297,861 in a 10-day period ending Oct. 24, more than any other special interest group. WASHINGTON (AP) Federal mediators are working to bring about a resumption of contract negotiations aimed at averting a nationwide coal strike after the United Mine Workers broke off talks in a dispute over money matters. Despite the impasse, UMW President Arnold Miller said there still was a slim hope of preventing a walkout when the current contact expires Nov. 12. WASHINGTON (AP) Prosecutors in the Watergate coverup trial, have nearly finished with the testimony of major witnesses and will soon play recorded evidence they say is among the most damning to be put before the jury. Watergate prosecutors say they plan to play more than 20 presidential tapes, on which are heard only the voices of former President Richard M.

Nixon and one or more of three of the five defendants. LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) Former President Richard M. Nixon is off the critical list after complications from phlebitis surgery, but medical officials say there is no word on when he may leave the hospital. Nixon had been in critical condition for six days after experiencing shock following an operation to partially close a vein in his left groin area to keep blood clots from moving to his lungs or heart.

Another reason for increased usage are seasonal factors such as higher heating bills and I construction layoffs, he added. statistics show $6,456,869 worth of food stamps issued in Indiana in September. That is an increase of 67.97 per cent over the September 1973 figure of $3,843,976.
