R. Tage, of Santa Ana, C. R. Page, of Los Angeles, sons, and Dosha Page, daughter, of Newhail Mr. Page came California 20 years ago, and resided on his Happy Volley ranch for the last five years.

Mr. Page was a faithful member of the Central Christian Church of Pasadena. lish Channel, is reported as having been poisoned. Maybe he followed the method of the raau who the story fcays, got into a boat, tied a rope to a limb of an overhanging tree, swallowed some poison, poured kerosene over himself, set it on fire, and aiming a revolver at his head, pulfcd the trigger, His aim was poor; the bullet cut the rope, the boat upset, the water put out the fire and made him so sick he vomited the poison, and a passing boatman pulled him out of the river. Wright to the board of supervisors of Los Angeles county. Ex-service men are very active in their effort to re-elect Mr. Wright because his record has been clean, honest and efficient.

Upon the entrance of the United States into the World War Henry Wright was not of military age, but the government called upon him to serve on the district draft board. His son served with the colors on the border and later, two years with the American "army' in France and in Italy. Supervisor Wright has always been active in every progressive movement. He has been a staunch friend of the soldier, and. when a member of the state legislature advocated the veteran home and farm act which has provided thousands of veterans with homes and farms throughout the state of California without cost to the tax-payer.

When Mr. Wright was a member of the state legislature he sponsored the bill which permits counties to build meeting places for ex-service men organizations of all wars. Later after he became supervisor in Los Angeles county he worked to take advantage of this law, and constructed Patriotic hall. This building cost the taxpayer nothing and has since become the meeting place for all military organizations in Los Angeles county. As a member of the state legislature Mr.

Wright also aided in securing the appropriation for the construction of the state armory in Exposition Park. An chairman of the finance and Budget committee on the board of supervisors Henry W. Wright has maintained at all times a surplus of more than three million dollars in the general fund of Los Angeles county meeting every demand against the county when due. This has given Los Angeles county the highest credit rating of any county in the United States. tA the some time Los Angeles county -can rightfully beast of the lowest tax rate in the state of California.

These progressive measures are made possible only after years of experience as- a public servant, and ex-service men are asking change experience for an experiment?" I v. turned by that same hand labor till the whole mass was fine as dust. The gold flakes gathered in the cracks of the fower stone, and the rock dust was washed away with water, after which the gold was carefully gathered. The returns were never very large, but labor was cheap, and time not precious, so the reward was considered good. Thousands of dollars in glod were afterwards found in other nearby localities, some of the finds being being very rich, but no one ever found the mother lode, if indeed (here was one.

And small amounts are still obtained, the being witness to the finding of a nugget since becoming a resident here, which weighed to a value of $4.76. A. C. These two historic spots, where the oil and the gold was first discovered in California, the two things that have made the Btate the richest in resources, will undoubtedly be of great interest to tourists If you are interested in the progress of the Valley and cf the towns in it, and are pleased with the fight the Signal and Enterprise has made in the road matter, we would like to see tangible evidence of it.
