The highlight came in 1984 when BYU upset Michigan in the Holiday Bowl and was voted national NCAA champion with a 13-0 record. YMCA Preschool Has Spaces The Santa Clarita YMCA has spaces in its Canyon Country area preschools for children 2 to 5 years old.

Open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., the schools are located on elementary school campuses so that the children feel that they are attending school with their older brothers, sisters and friends. The curriculum is designed to help the children grow socially, physically, and emotionally as well as academically. For more information, one may call the YMCA main office at 253-8060. Passengers on the roller coaster, named "Ninja," will ride in the suspended cars, navigating 2700 feet of track in three-and-a-half minutes down two 70-foot 23736 LYONS AVENUE, NEWHALL (Inside Caston's) 259-6417 251-6439 drops and through two complete spirals. At one point, riders will be traveling 120 feet above the ground with nothing below them. "It's like free flight. It feels like you're flying," said Courtney Brown, park representative. The spectacular ride will be only the fourth of its kind in the U.S.

But while the other three, located at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia, at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio and at Astroworld in Houston, Texas, travel between 30 and 40 miles per hour, Ninja will reach speeds of 55 miles per hour. "We're confident the bugs are out," said Brown, referring to the other three rides. "This is a new generation of roller coaster." Plans are to redesign the entire area surrounding Ninja, which will be located at the highest elevation in the park, close to the Skytower. The section, to be renamed "Samurai Summit," will feature Ninja, a new food store and a merchandise outlet in addition to the Four Winds Oriental restaurant and Japanese Gardens already at the site. The $5-million-dollar Ninja represents a major capital investment for Magic Mountain, whose last two new attractions, Z-Force, a looping starship, and Shock Wave, a stand-up roller coaster, cost $1.2 million and $3.5 million dollars respectively.

Ninja is currently in the excavation stage, and a big, festive opening is scheduled for May 1988, around the Memorial Day weekend. Park officials expect' Ninja to be a major guest draw, but promise no new increase in admission prices.
