ABC had embraced the title of U2's new album, "Pop," for an "ABC is Pop" promotion that is the network's theme for the month.

On the bright side for ABC was Diane Sawyer's interview last Friday with actress Ellen DeGeneres, which pushed "2020" into the week's top 10 shows. It bodes well for the much-hyped "coming out" episode of DeGeneres' comedy that aired Wednesday night. CBS finished second, with a 10.0 rating and 17 share. ABC was third with an 8.1 rating and 14 share, followed by Fox's 7.1 rating and 1 2 share. had a 3.0 rating and 5 share, while the WB had a 2.5 rating and 4 share.

"Another You." David Kersh (Curb) 4. "Sad Lookin' Moon," Alabama (RCA) By DAVID BAUDER AP Television Writer NEW YORK NBC, which has led the television ratings all season, was the network to beat as broadcasters began a month's worth of special programming crucial to advertisers. NBC finished first last week with a 10.9 rating and 19 share, Nielsen Media Research said Tuesday. The week included the first four days of the May "sweeps" period, one of four months a year when Nielsen canvasses local markets for ratings that will be used to set advertising rates. The May period is considered the most important.

NBC's "ER" and "Seinfeld" were the week's most-watched programs, as they usually are in weeks with original episodes. CBS' Sunday movie, "A Match Made in Heaven," starring Olympia Dukakis and Delia Reese, beat the first part of ABC's Stephen King miniseries, "The Shining." The miniseries finished a strong 12th for the week and ABC was pleased with its showing among young viewers. ABC had a disastrous Saturday night, however, with a rating believed to be the lowest ever one-night showing by one of the big three networks. 3 SCLARITA VIDEO RENTALS Courtesy of Modem Video in Saugus 1.
